OK Whos bringing dive gear ????  :smt006

The Islander is not that big of a boat. You will be storing all of your gear on the back deck, and space is limited.

Ya there's room for free dive gear though....Last year the skipper and one of the deckhands were diving as well.

What additional costs can I expect on this trip? Will someone be posting a list of what to bring?

Obviously gas for the trip down and back. Hotel room if you're coming the day before like a lot of us are. Meals for Friday since we'll be boarding Friday evening and there is no food served the first night. There's also three or four really nice tackle shops within walking distance of the launch, so you may need some extra cash for tackle.

On the boat you'll just need money for water or beer (I brought a few waters that were enough to get me through the trip) and to tip the crew. The crew busts their ass all day making sure that we are comfortable and have what we need. It's my understanding that the whole operation doesn't make much profit on these trips so I try to tip the crew pretty good.

Also - There is a small charge to have your fish filleted, if you'd like. I can't remember what it was, but it was totally reasonable.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of different answers here, but I fished Carolina rigged live bait 90% of the time on both trips I've been on.
All I really bring tackle-wise is:
- Ringed live bait hooks - a few each of size 1 through 3/0 or even 4/0. The first year I went we had little sardines and I used mostly 1/0. Last year we had pretty big sardines, a few mackerel, and live squid so I was using 3/0 and 4/0.
- Egg sinkers - 1/2oz - 3oz. I think I mostly used 1oz and 2oz last year, but could see using more if the conditions turn ugly.
- Decent barrel swivels.
- 40lb braid - just 'cause that's what's already on my reels.
- 25lb or 30lb flourocarbon for leaders.
- BAIT TUBE or some method for keeping your bait alive and with you.
- I'll probably bring a drift sock this year, just in case.
- Decent net, lip-gripper, or gaff.
- Couple of Big Hammers, couple of surface irons, couple of Knife jigs in case there's a deep yellowtail bite.
- OCEAN ENHANCEMENT STAMP

We're mostly fishing for halibut, sheepshead, and calicos and hoping that there will be yellowtails and WSB around, so bring whatever you'd use to target those species here.

And I'll mention this again - DO NOT bring so much stuff that it over clutters the deck...and definitely do not be the guy that is holding up everyone from launching while you're digging through your stuff and trying to get set up.

Are you staying at the Dolphin Motel?

It's a chill, small place. We'll more than likely all be chillin'/low key partying in the parking lot.
