I guess what I am saying is
Members with more posting than you get to see your hookup
But
Members with less post (up to a certain number) don't get to see it.
Hope it makes sense

How abouy setting it in the program somewhere where if a member say with a 1000 post to his name and posted a hook up, only members with 300 or more post wil see thehookup.  Just an example.
If a member say with only 1 post to his name post a hookup then everyone with 》2 post will see it.
That way the OGs can fish with expirienced crew n hang on to their secret spot and the newbie with 1 post may get lucky and maybe joined by a more seasoned angler.
I think the more difficult we can make it for polepole the better :)

Anyways, I can definitely see the points.  I think a "public" hookup and a "Members Only 10+" Hookup page makes sense.   If someone with 1000 posts only wants someone with 300+ posts to view their hookup, they should just PM/call/text their friends, they don't need to use the forum for that.

For example, in the next 6 months if I post a hookup it will almost exclusively be at a Tri-valley oriented lake, and I would post those in public.

If for whatever crazy reason my wife allows me to leave the tri-valley area and my fatherly duties, I would consider posting it in the MO section.

FWIW never been in the salt, never crabbed, nothing I currently post on this site about my fishing habits (public or private) can be used against me by anyone who reads it, and I think I can say the same thing applies for the vast-vast majority of posts on this website.

This is an interesting topic, but in the long run the negative issue that generated the topic affects a very small amount of users, and while honestly I feel bad for them, I would hate to see wholesale changes to the forums enacted that would affect the entire community that uses this board (public, private, lurkers, contributors) just to partially hinder (cause you absolutely cannot stop a determined person) a very tiny group of folks who are doing bad things to another very tiny group of folks.....

Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

i voted "public"......if you are looking for fellow NCKA brothers to join you, this is the way to go.

if you dont want to be joined by brothers or lurkers, dont use the above method.

If you see the same group of fellas, having fun and want to join in on the antics, just pm them, introduce yourself and ask them if you can join in.

plain and simple.

I still wonder what information the anonymous public needs with hookups.  About the only use of that info that I've heard discussed here in what Scott suggested in the original post.  And then I suggested Joe Public may use that general information (and not a specific hookup) as part of their decision making process regarding registering on the forum.

But what else?  I must be missing something.  All you guys that want this public, what else do you expect the public to do with this info?  Other than maybe randomly showing up unannounced at a hookup?

I voted for members only.  I posted a hookup when I was in Trinidad and Crash met me.  He has way more time and experience than me on the ocean.  He totally hooked me up with bait and even a jig head, which helped me land my PB ling.  So I guess what I am saying is if you are new to the sport esp on the ocean having a fellow member with experience is really important, that's why I voted member...as for the litigious speak on the subject...way too paranoid, turn off Judge Judy and turn on your horse-sense and God-given humanity...

You don't come on to a board like NCKA and maintain any kind of criminal or even dishonorable intentions in your fist ten posts - it does not happen.  Prove me wrong.
Except for the BlackAb guy who posted a few times back in the day... :smt044

There are potential downsides to maintaining a Public hookups section. And there are potential downsides to making the Hookups section MO.
But I don't see any potential downsides to having BOTH a public hookups and a MO hookups section.

The main reason I don't want to see the hookups go strictly MO...is due to the publicity it garners for events/tournies. Where would noobies or other people on-the-fence about kayak fishing be able to go and read about upcoming events? They tend to get buried under the Tournaments section in the current forum structure.

Ummm ... we tend to sticky all upcoming events.  If you see one that isn't stickied, let the mods know and we'd make it so.

Sometimes people show up out of the blue hook-up or not. You have to make the call on whether YOU want to fish with them or not. On this day I told the kayaker I was not comfortable with him tagging along. Here is my post  regarding the encounter I had back in December of 2010....

12-30-2010

Today I  was meeting up with another for a bit of sturgeon fishing. Got down to the bay at six and we made the decision to skip it due to the wind. Made a quick trip to Burlingame (another "bank job")and on the way back the bay had settled a bit so I went it alone.

On the water I met a guy in a  10' SIS kayak. I noticed he was only wearing jeans and a flannel shirt with his pfd. He was taking heavy spray and nosing into the bigger waves. I pointed out his lack of preparedness for emersion and he said he was wearing three layes of street clothes. Couldn't resist asking if he could get back in his kayak if he went in the drink....he replied ..not a chance. At that point I told him he can't be out there for his safety and my own. He thanked me and I kept an eye on him until he got to the beach.

...he left a note on my truck

I remember that! That was awesome. I don't even post on the hook up board anymore hardly.

There might be some people who like helping new kayak fishermen out and don't mind having them tag along.

Haven't read everyone's answers or comments but why not both public and MO? Is it much work?

Absolutely that's the case.  But without being registered, there is no way to coordinate with the person posting the hookup.  Posting and PM's are not enabled for "guests" on NCKA.

Just a thought.

Might help to get people to register, with some explanation:

"Please register and introduce yourself if you are going to show up at a public hook-up, always good to know something about the people who may join us on the water"
