Beginning to have additional love: cycling, although kayaking is still #1. But I think us 3 can live together without any issues.  :smt002
Just completed the 50 mile Coyote Creek classic at Bernal, San Jose about 6 weeks ago. Almost died. Not enough practice.

Would love to do practice rides in groups so if there are cyclists around, we can join together.

I have an old 2002 model KESTREL Talon road bike which I just recently got from Craigslist after the 50 mi. classic that I joined. Very happy with it.

Planning more rides in the future. Now looking at the 100 mi. Sea Otter Classic in Monterey on April 12, 2014

Would love to have company.

Danny

sounds like you live in the south bay.  I'm not much for distance group rides bc i'm usually time trialing, and packs get nervous anytime they see a tri geek.  However, i periodically do a 35 mile route on my roadbike with some friends starting in Los Altos and going through Woodside.  PM me and let's ride sometime

Awesome! I live in Palo Alto by Home Depot/Ikea. We can meet at your place and try your 35 mi. route. Haven't done the one by Stanford University but I think there are 3 levels of routes there depending on the grade.

Will pm you soon.

I"m up in Marin, and just now starting ankle surgery recovery, but ride weekly.

I'll be training up for yet another Death Ride or Climb to Kaiser this year, and probably RAGBRAI.
I usually do a 3-5 hour ride on Sat, starting at 9.

Right now, and for the next month i'm limited to an hour or max two hours...but will still start about 9:30 from Fairfax.

Both my road and Mountain bikes are colecting dust.  I work in Palo Alto and have been looking for some one to ride with after work.  Iam in no shape to ride 50 let alone 100 miles yet.

Kevin,
You're the closest one then. I just attempted to do 50 mi. Coyote Creek Classic but it didn't mean I was in shape for it. Finished it though but suffered the consequences for a whole week. Would like to train further.
Been asking the more seasoned riders and was told that I should do 80% of the target ride during practice but didn't do it. Did only 20 mi. for 3 Saturdays and then the Classic.

We're both looking for someone to ride with and I think we found it. Let's hook up soon.

Kohole,
Can u give me details of the Death Ride (scary  :smt009) and the Climb to Kaiser as well as RAGBRAI? I'll gauge myself if it's doable. If not, gives me all the more reason to practice.

Thanks guys.

Danny

The climb to Kaiser will send a newbie off to Kaiser (Permanente) lol.
Recommend at least another year of saddle time before attempting those rides, Danny.
death ride and Kaiser each feature 15,000 ft+ elevation gain

good objectives for the future!

Thanks.

Danny,

Realistically for me, I will be looking hard after Christmas.  I am going back East for a couple of weeks and will get back into things ntil then. Staring 50 in the face, I am not out to look at killing myself, but do want to get better at riding and going further distances.  Where do you plan on going to start off?  I normally hit Canada Road in Woodside, but that can be really breezy and chilly if the fog is rolling in.  Nice hills to work off some of that holiday poundage though. If you have a route in in the PA area that may be better as transporting my bike  with the car can be a PITA, and I have a place to stash it at work.

The downhills are what kilt a dude last year.  overcooked his carbon wheels braking on a descent, ended up in the trees

http://www.fresnobee.com/2013/06/26/3361693/climb-to-kaiser-making-sense-of.html

its doable but you gotta be prepared for it

Frankly, i think you face a greater risk of red asphalt by riding down Market St in SF!

Danny, I would like to start riding too but you have to start me at no more than 5 mile rides.  I can use the exercise.
