Stripers for crab bait?

I haven't done much rock fishing but I have a freezer with some striper carcasses.  I normally would use chicken, squid and whatever I can legally catch while on the water but I thought why not try the stockpile of stripers I already have.  Does anyone use them as crab bait? I don't imagine they'd be as great as say salmon but it should be better than chicken right?

The owner of Lauritzens harbor in the delta leaves a cooler by the cleaning station for striper carcasses which he uses for crab bait and swears by it.
