Going to head down to the port tomorrow morning fairly early ( on the water before 9) I don't have a clue where to launch or how to get there easiest (hwy 50 or I80) I am doing the tournament on the 8th of Dec and I realized today I need to get down there as much as possible for experience considering I have no fish finder and do not plan on having one before the tourney.
I am planning on trolling a a p line predator and a larger rapala. both dive to 8-12 feet. Hopefully I can pull something out of there with those, Going to adjust what depth diver to use as I go though. As far as casting lures I was hoping one of you fine fisherman could help a port rookie in  choosing a few of them.

Driftwood, welcome to the madness and the board. If your lucky and have a good day otw at the port tomarrow, the Sac Crew may have a spot for you!  :smt044..jk
The port has been fishing good lately..trolling takes its fair share of fish. if your gonna troll 2 rods, work one deep and one shallow. rebels, yozuris, lucky craft pointers and plines all work. But having live bait is Almost gauranteed action. if u can, depending on wat u wanna catch, i suggest getting some live minnows from pennys bait shop first. Drop shot or split shot those minnows at a very slow drift near the bottom is a very good tecnique at the port. spraying some scent(procure, bang, etc.) on the minnows wouldnt hurt either. If theres no wind, u shouldnt have to use more then 3/4 of an oz. for weight on the minnows. troll from the launch to bridge and start baitfishing after bridge if u choose. oh, and nightcrawlers on that same minnow rig can be succesful too.  goodluck out there. please post a report. Ricci

Here is the location and launch. http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=42846.0
Excellent resource for fishing the port. I am surprised it hasn't been posted as a permanent article yet.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan
