I know most of you were not born yet. So those of you can post things like, challenger or the big quake during start of world series. So  Here I go  JFK assignation  I was in school 5th grade. when announced during school we all thought is was a new joke about Kennedy at the time. Yes in 5th grade we heard some of the jokes. I saw Ruby shoot Oswald live on T.V.

I was sitting in class, fourth grade, the way we learned we knew it wasn't a joke, and even at that young age we knew the world would never be the same. Maybe we couldn't put that thought into words but we could feel it.

For people my age it's a real marker,

As for the Challenger I was at work and even remember where I was standing.

Some events are just like that.

Back when I was dating in my 40s, the JFK question was an age test, you ask a lady the "where were you when" ... There are 3 answers, best one, just like me, remember it exactly, second best one "I was too young to remember" worst one and a shop stopper is "I wasn't even born yet"

I too was in the 4th grade and a big silence came over the whole school never felt that since. The teacher, Miss Alcon ,started crying which in turn started the other girls crying. All the boys just sat stunned.

(Here's one for the ages, Just had dinner tonight with the lead guitarist for " Strawberry Alarm Clock ".
Damn guy is younger then I am by just a year but still.....)

Wow the 60's what a rush, in more ways then one. Our generation sure did make an impact on the world. A lot of that Groovy stuff is back in and I hate to say it highly collectable.

My favorite presidential saying, " Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country! Then he was gone. I firmly believe if J.F.K. had lived I would not have spent a year in that far off country and 56,000 would not have been lost.
Honored to have experienced this turbulent era but what a TRIP! Not the destination after all...
I need to fish!

I was sitting through another stunningly boring lecture in a college class, Epistemology and Metaphysics, for which the professor had insisted that we read two books, one had been out of print for years and I'd spent two months scouring used book shops in the greater Bay Area for it with no luck - there was supposed to be one copy on reserve in the library, but I think someone had stolen it.
So it should come as no surprise that when someone burst into the room (something that NEVER happened) and said the president had been shot, the professor turned back to the blackboard and droned on - something about round squares or some such.
The only way to find out more details was to walk home and turn on the hand-me-down TV.

Oh, and Vietnam: Kennedy continued to back us into that mess, probably so as not to appear "soft on Communism", and still licking wounds from the Bay of Pigs (Cuba, youngsters) fiasco, so who knows whether he would have gotten us out any sooner than Johnson/Nixon?

Same as Tom. Sitting in a college class when a classmate walks in late to the lecture and announces the event. Perplexed shock best describes our emotional response.

I was living in Taiwan. It was the middle of the night when my stepfather woke us up. He was a captain in the US Navy.

Kenedy was shot two years before I was born.

Challenger exploded while I was in the bar, yes bar, on my college campus. My friend worked for the company that built the o-rings that failed.

Can't say I remember this one but still interesting to hear your personal experiences from "that day."

Really, Frank, The Strawberry Alarm Clock? Did you hang out with Z-Man, too?  :smt004

i was a baby, but I remember when Bobby and MLK got shot. I was living in Ft Lauderdale when Challenger went down, I was at work but the two flights before I saw live at The Cape and I have to say there is nothing like seeing one of those take off. Still gives me the shivers.

Yeah, Baby! I loved that song.

I  was in Kindergarten when JFK was assasinated. I was walking home from school in Petaluma (Yeah! A 5 year old could do that then in that little town of about 5,000) and my Mom came running up the street to tell me. Everybody was just devestated.
