Has anyone taken a TI down to the water at Timber Cove?  It looks steep and I don't think it would be very easy to take a TI on a trailer down there; not much room to maneuver. So that leaves using wheels and carrying the rest of the parts down the hill, which I don't think would be too bad.  Coming back up may be another story!  Also, how do the Mirage Drives work around all the kelp?

Thanks
Mark

PM KenJan, He took a Tandem AI out a few times from there. I think it went on top of a 4runner.

Should be fine. They trailer launch skiffs there.

It doesn't!  It will not be smooth in  the kelp nor will the rudder work well.  I usually push one pedal all the way to flatten the fins and paddle, or just delicately fish the edges if the kelp.

Take the trailer and all down to the bottom. Unload the Tandem.  unhook the trailer and stash out of the way.
Go fish, then reverse on the way out.
 Easy.

A lot of Islanders have light weight paddle kayaks to fish places like Timber Cove and Big Sur. The TI would not be my choice for fishing any of the popular Sonoma kayak launches. You can get the job done in the TI but not ideal for rockfishing in the kelp. TC has a channel through the kelp but there are other launches like Pacific Grove where you have to slog through 50-100 yards of kelp patty. I will tell you that paddling a fully rigged AI or TI through kelp is not fun at all. Etienne and I did it once and never again.

There is a channel through the kelp at TC cut by powerboats and others.  Smooth sailing to the outside of the kelp then you can make your way along the outer edge to the north or south.

I have taken a trailer to TC, so it can be done, going through the kelp is not advisable.
the questions you should ask yourself are if you are good enough with the trailer given the amount of cars down there?
and the other question is why would you want to go on the kelp?, go around it.
