Adventurous Tournament Ruben !!!  Congratulations Scott and all the others who participated!! The lure choice was perfect but I would have traded for all Big Hammers given the choice as those things were ling magnets Saturday. The weather for an all paddle/no electronics format was perfect...flat, clear, and calm. My choice of "kayak" for the day was a flash from the past (over 30 years old). It was good to get the old girl out on the big blue again.....

That classic sittin' on a Wheeleez baloon tire cart is somehow reminiscent of a mid seventies Caprice Classic rollin' on 26s  :smt044

Wow... looks like a great day out there. I was hoping to make it out but my son had a playoff game. So, I made that instead... Only to watch him take the opening kick off, get slammed to the ground and break his collar bone. Congrats to Scott and all the other participants. Definitely looks like an awesome tourney. Hope to see more with the same format in the future.

A discloser before going out would have eliminated any questions.     Oh well,,,

True, my bad. It is water under the bridge. At the end of the day we are still family which makes NCKA special. We fished hard and caught nice fish. Doesn't get better than that. See you out there.

So true, I think everyone came in with nice fish. Including a huge copper Justin wrastled up. Man, it was glorious day otw.

I managed a nice 9# 11oz ling and one just a bit smaller. Not bad for a Lowrance guy without a Lowrance.  :smt044

Fishing was awesome and they were definitely otb. The big hammer slowly turned into a small hammer after about a dozen or more lings having their way with it. After the tail was gone I decided to change up. I tied on a new leader and clasp, took out the Ahi jig, unwrapped her, purdy lure. I put my leader line away and dropped that baby into the water.... wait I forgot to put it on the clasp!!! AHHHH SHEEEET... oh it looked so pretty going down into the deep green. Oh well, beer me!

The B2 squid did well for some decent blacks and a couple small lings. Looking forward to this event next year.

The 2 highlights of the day... #1 was a harbor seal tried to steal one of my lings. I was reeling it in and wham, drag is screaming. I look down and I see it. It was fun putting my MH Trevala to the test. She let it go and the ling came in umharmed, hmmmm. #2 Raydon donating the wheeleez back and someone who really needed them got'em. That's a pro move, you rock Ray!

I actually don't think it is the lure either. I fished a lot with Brendan in the old days, yeah before he got b******d, and he said it was not the what lure but where you dropped it. I agree that really big lings are looking for bigger lures or bait, but if drop anything in front of a ling and they are in the feeding mode, they will bite it.

Thanks, Ruben!!!

It was such a nice day and Ash & I had fun.  It was her maiden voyage in her new kayak. She liked it (thanks, yakhooper & OK)!

Another picture of the ling. A personal best for me from a kayak at 14# 4oz. My only regret was not being able to release him alive. Next time I will bring a livewell.
