Ok here it is…

WOW what a great time. I had a total blast putting this together and sharing it with all my NCKA family.

I arrived on Friday afternoon around 1:00 to an INSANLEY windy Timber Cove  :smt087. First thing I do is run down to the beach just to find Kiel/ReelKnots and his family already set up to camp and already cooking  :chef:. Also on the beach was Justin/NapaJustin and this crazy mofo is setting up his yak to go ab diving in a frickin'' gale. To my delight Kiel took it upon himself to go with "for safety's sake". Sonoma Coast Safety Squad in da house!

The two of them head out as I'm watching from the bluff and starting to get worried. I grab my radio and hail Kiel… I can tell from the wind noise over the radio that it's bad out there. I hear Kiel hollering at Justin and then they're headed towards the cove. Thanks boys, you may have prevented a heart attack on my part. Once in the cove Justin begins what turns out to be an hour and half of productive diving for a limit of respectable abs

After a sleepless night tossing and turning with excitement I get up and head down to the beach at 4:45 for onsite reg and tackle handout. Raydon was ready to launch buy 5:00 a.m. but it was still pitch black so I held him back until O2B and his OG Vitog Nomad showed up around 5:15 and with just slightest hint of color in the sky off they went with their headlamps on like little floating stars in the current. The rest of the anglers were in no real hurry and waited until we had some actual light in the sky.

We had a good number of onsite registrants and a couple of no shows but all in all it was a great turnout for a fist time format. The total anglers fishing the tourney was 41 with 43 paid entries going towards the jackpot.

By 9:30 or so I was completely frozen through and all who participated were launched so I headed back up the hill to warm up and get headquarters set up. It was about this time I realized what an absolute amazing break we were having in the weather. I looked out over the bluff to see "oil slick" seas. Not a hint of wind no fog just beautiful open ocean and blue sky. This is why they call it the Pacific. I proceed to take in the view for  few minutes and enjoy the great luck I have had in setting this whole thing up. Then it's back to work getting ready for the raffle and awards ceremony.

Not long into setting up I hear Jennifer (my amazing wife) saying "hey there's a nice fish" and Jake Durant/JakeD turns the corner at the top of the hill with a 5 lb 10 oz ling to weigh in so that he can get his own gear and head back out catch some non-tourney fish. First victim of the 3 lure limit. And as I watch him return to that blue slice of heaven I look around and am pleased to see others out there enjoying themselves.

Ok, time to cook the green beans with bacon and fried onions for the potluck. Into the trailer I go to find the Jennifer (my amazing wife, did I say that yet?) has everything all prepped and ready for me to cook. In no time at all the green beans are ready and I'm starting to see more and more anglers returning.

more tomorrow...

Way to get it done with all that competition. It is a real challenge to get to where the fish are and not loose gear at the same time.

A discloser before going out would have eliminated any questions.     Oh well,,,    Always the bridesmaid,,,   :smt044

Here's the video on that second fish.    I was busy the first five minutes wondering if that was going to bust my line.    Finally managed to get the GoPro on my head in time to turn it on in time.        The first ling was getting excited, must have known company was coming.

I missed the rule where you could only have a dinker net on board!   :smt003 :smt005 :smt002

Sorry, Jim, but I will always give anyone crap for that.   :smt008

Adventurous Tournament Ruben !!!  Congratulations Scott and all the others who participated!! The lure choice was perfect but I would have traded for all Big Hammers given the choice as those things were ling magnets Saturday. The weather for an all paddle/no electronics format was perfect...flat, clear, and calm. My choice of "kayak" for the day was a flash from the past (over 30 years old). It was good to get the old girl out on the big blue again.....

Thanks for the ride-along Jim, almost felt like I caught it myself. If you'd been in a narrower (less roomy) kayak that thing may have gotten the better of you and swam away. Nice job wrastlin' that thing.
