I'll be fishing in Monterey this weekend.  I'll watch this thread and try to show up where/if a group assembles.  I will cast a vote, though, for the Coral St Launch in Pacific Grove.  No waves, no stairs, great fishing and lotsa free parking.  What more could you ask for?

Alex -

Let's try and hookup. What time are you going to launch from MBK? Also, how deep are the sand dabs and are you using them for ling bait or eating them yourself?  :smt005

I'll try to get on the beach by 05:30 and launch by 06:00....I usually down load the Yak in the meeter parking lot by the Volleyball courts and park my car on Del Monte blvd.

Sanddabbs  are tasty so i keep them to eat but may sacrifice a couple for ling bait. I us sally try to get at least 50 or more in a hour then I'll move on for rockcod.  Depth: between 145' to 185'

See you at 5:30. I will probably park in the metered lot in front of MBK. Probably need 1 lb weights to get down to 185 ft?

I'll be on VHF channel 69. Give us a call when you launch and we can give you the bearing and GPS coordinates.

I might, actually . . but I'm torn.  Nomad and his buddy are thinking of launching at Coral St and I'm leaning towards hitting it there.  I don't like to keep rockfish so the shallow-er water over there is a good spot for me.   If they end up not going, though, I'll be meeting you guys in the MBK parking lot on Sat AM.

Hi,

I'd like to join you on Saturday in Monterey.  I am not real experienced and have gone out maybe a dozen times from Santa Cruz and once from HMB for the derby.  I would really like to learn from some more experienced anglers as I haven't been terribly successfull--just one ling and some smaller rock fish.

Alien gave me some advice on what he uses for fishing at Monterey and I am wondering if any of the rest of you can give me additional suggestions on what I should pick up when I go to Fisherman's Warehouse tomorrow?  I will get some squid as alien recommended.  I have a live bait tank--do you stop and try to catch any baitfish?

Is it agreed that 4-6 oz. weights are sufficient?

Any advice welcomed.

Hope to meet some of you Saturday,

Doug
