We're staying at the Lahe House, one of the rentals through an agency.  I guess it's really close to the marina they're working on.  i've never been to the lake before, so I plan on doing quite a bit of exploring, but my friend just brought over some smoked trout from their trip, and it was awesome...looking forward to hooking a few of my own!

OK, sounds like you are covered for your digs. Just wanted to make sure you were not paying to camp somewhere. If your plans aren't all booked up, you should come up to the property and have a beer. Or come up Sat. evening for dinner. We usually have a big dinner on Sat. with various wild game and fish.

Howdy.  I used to fish there quite a bit.  Spring and fall are the best times, before they all head to the deep water and the springs.  threaded night crawlers, or flies way behind the boat on the lightest line you can handle.  somettimes a good idea to have a swivel 4-5 feet above the bait to get any floating debris before it hits your bait.  We would camp right on the lake front-dont know if you still can.  If you duck hunt, you can fish and hunt at the same time in the tulies.  The slip bobers and still fishing the springs work well when the fish are down.  The leaded line also works well to go deep.  Wont be able to go up there labor day-going to e ab diving on north coast, but keep me in mind for any other work parties/campouts.  Winter is not a problem either-popup camper and 4 wheel drive.  JR

Thanks for the tips, and thanks for the offer BigDog.  I'll have the family in tow, but it sounds like it's an early bite, so I plan on doing some sight-seeing, and dove season opens that weekend, so I was also planning on making a drive to find any water holes.  I've hunted in the area in the past, we always seem to have done good on the waterfowl, not sure if anything else is flying.  Either way, when it gets closer i'll repost, maybe see if we can't meet up.

tight lines,
Ben

A quote from the latest WON:
SpaldingEasy limits are being taken right now by most (Eagle Lake) anglers. In addition to the short turnaraounds for limits, Eagle Lake trout sizes are also picking up with limits to 6 pounds or more possible. Tim Noxon of Fish Travelers Guide Service said "Right now, 95 percent of the anglers are cathcing their limits in about two hours."

I fished Eagle a few times. The last time was probably 4 years ago or so. I was float tubing and accessing the lake just beyond the Spaulding airport. The memorable thing was a paraplegic fly fishing yaker that was camped alone in his van along the shore and fishing the lake. He was from Truckee. It's rugged there in the fall but the fish are something else. Not alot of hookups and less landings for sure. Cold, windy and unforgiving. After landing an adult I remember needing to take a bit of a rest before resuming. I also remember the larger fish trying to dislodge the hook with their tail if they were in shallow enough water. Too bad it's so damn far away. (carmel valley)
