Call any costco and ask for the closest store that has the item number, 673376. They can all see other stores inventory.

Just an fyi,  Costco in South San Francisco (1600 El Camino) has these kits in stock.  There's about a dozen against the wall.  I picked up a box this evening.

These are a very poor replica of the Danielson traps; we used four of them this year and all of them seem to have breaks in the welds, the metal piece breaks off the plastic caribiners and come off.

I've had Danielson from 2006 that I still use which are in better shape then the ones that were bought from Costco....

Thanks for the heads up!  Looks like I'll be headed back to Costco for a refund.

Those traps if handle with a bit of care are OK, the door on tap makes it easy for a person on top of a kayak to retrieve the crabs.
put some weight on the doors and a 5 lbs dive weight  on the button and they will be OK, I would replace that cheap rope too.
Keep them, and built up from there, you want to have at least 5 or 6 traps anyways.

"Keep them, and built up from there..."

If you gonna be replacing and building up on the traps, you might as well get the Danielsons; you can purchase them for as low as $19.95 ea. Why purchase the kit if you are not going to use all of the parts?

If Chucke (who is out on an NCKA sabatical) ever does the crab seminar, I can show you how to rig/lace the Danielsons.....

never got any crab in my kayak with the costco traps this fishing season in Monterey ,in closer...but met a guy a few weeks back while gearing up tolaunch, called me today,  he is going to pull his pots in Monterey  on his motor boat and wants me to meet him and ride along/show me some of the spots..says it is within paddle distance  for me (maybe)and he got more crab than the folks on board could limit with last time...gonna go poke pole early Sunday and bring dry clothes to go with him later...may get these costco traps used after all...was just thinking about the $$$ traps and extra rope I bought the other day, thinking oh well...we'll see now  :smt001

I got a box of these for Crabfest. I got them out today to get them ready and check them out. I had read that some gauges are not accurate so I checked mine. They are about an 1/8 " short. Check your gauges!

If enough are intrested, I could bring a case of Danielson box traps to crabfest. Might be good for those who don't have time to chase down traps before next weekend.
Post up and let me know.

I got an aluminum gauge at sports chalet. Is a box gauge something different?

While setting up my trap I looked at the regs to familarize myself with them. The traps have the 41/4 rigid escape opening, but they don't seem to be in the right place. Maybe I am just confused, after all the regs are not necessarily written in an easy to understand format. The regs say..."(c) Crab traps shall have at least two rigid circular openings of not less than four and one-quarter inches inside diameter so constructed that the lowest portion of each opening is no lower than five inches from the top of the trap."in my photos, the side with the higher number on the tape measure is the side with the crab entry doors and the side with the lower numbers is the side with the crab removal access door. Does this trap meet the regs based on your understanding of what they say? Can anyone tell me if a Danielson trap escape rings are located the same?
