"Mooch Strong" Image Permission

As with others, Kinda wondering what brought this on and if it has anything to do with misuse or !?!?!?  What are we gonna copyright next? What if someone does use it? Are court proceedings next? What's going on?

What about these? I was just going to make them for free.

Yep I have the plaque which is proudly hanging in my office. I'm confused as to why anyone claims the rights to Joel's nickname besides his immediate family? What's going on gentleman? Why the connection to anyone's rights of copyright?

Please don't mis-understand my intentions; I have no problems with it as an avatar on FB, NCKA or any other Social Media. I do have concerns if it is used in part or part of a product for sale without my knowledge or permission. I want to make sure any money raised using these logos either goes to help Joel's family or goes into the PIF fund.

Situation 1: Fishmaster1 using the image on his man-van as to raise awareness (and to show off his finger painting skills) - I have no problem with this.

Situation 2: Fishmaster1 paint this image on a fleet of vans, sells them for twice the value of the van and give this money to Rachel and PIF Fund - I have no problem with this either.

Situation 3: Fishmaster1 paint this image on a fleet of vans, sells them for twice the value of the van and spends the money to buy a new greenhouse for his "herbs" - this is a problem and will send my homies to remove some of his digits!

In all seriousness; just wanna make sure it is not abused because of its significance. Ask, if it's legit, wont be an issue.....

I say we ban him!!! .... Or better yet burn him at the stake!!! ... Or tar and feather!

Interesting. I believe the artwork can be copyrighted but the term "Mooch" or "Mooch Strong" would not be. Since Joel was not a copyright kind of guy, I am not sure this is the best way to honor his memory. I do understand the need to control or have some input over how it is used.

The moment you create ANYTHING visual—paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, etc—the only person who is allowed to copy that art is you. If you decide to sell prints of one of your paintings, you can. If anyone else does, without your written permission, you have the right to take them to court and sue for damages.

Wow, where's this coming from.....
Question: The paddling image of Joel (silhouette) was first done in 2005 predating membership to NCKA by those making claims. WWJD "What Would Joel Do" or am I in violation of the original meaning of "What Would Jesus Do". Confusing!   

I think the image was actually the logo & sticker of NCKA at that time.

Joel gave me a sunset sticker (that now graces my fishing logbook) to get the image and colors right.
The piece was originally a gift to Bill from Joel, to honor him for creating the site. Bill gave it to Joel when he moved to TX, since it was more about Joel by then anyway.
I don't hold any claim to the image at all (other than rendering it beautifully )
