That is a Sphinx Moth pupae, which come from Hornworm caterpillars!

At least in my yard it's a cocoon of a tomato worm, the big green ones with the spike (horn) on the tail end.  Take care of it and it should hatch out in the spring. 

Did you grow any tomatos this year?


Yes I did. I dug A hole right next to this tomato vine. I wish I could rub my genitals together and make em hum. Would sound better than some of you guys playing the yuks. :smt044

so seriously though i think it was hit right on the head. it looks like a crysalis of some sort. something going through changes. "bug puberty" its going to start getting hair is funny places and smelling bad... then eating everything in your fridge.

 Holy mother of all nitrogen Batman!  That is one big tomato plant.  Did it set fruit well? With all that vegetative growth it screams too much nitrogen to me.
