Got a couple milk crates from work today so i decided to tinker on a new cut front crate since my other one is whole. I  Started by marking my lines on the sides then followed by the jigsaw. Then i took the sanding wheel to it to get rid of the sharp/rough edges. I then started stacking boxes in it to figure out my layout i wanted. i decided to go with a gap in the front for my leader and scent bottles.  I had a spare piece of aluminum tubing so i cut that to put in the front as a stop and to wedge the bottles into. i drilled holes in the solid part of the crate to hold the tubing. I then got my bungie cords made up and mounted my pliers sheath to the side and put 1 inch pvc on the bottom to limit it from  slipping around in the ultra. I think it should work well and if it dosent it was fun tinkering with it anyway. Snuck a pooch picture in there since he was supervising the whole operation   :smt003

That's quite a load of tackle your packing there.  You'll find that less is more as you spend more time otw.

they should carry their own stuff  :smt003.....On the salt you should be able to easily get by with one box and still have more then you will ever need. I bet if you look at what you use over a season its 5-10 lures.....You just THINK you need all that stuff

Maybe but i like knowing i have it and that way i dont have to worry about what to bring just bring it all! And they are from out of town working with me so they just kick down some change to compensate for the lost bass jigs and spinnerbaits.  :smt002

My first few trips out I had at least that much tackle.  Now I carry only what fits in the Hobie Gear Bucket (about 10" in dia x 6" deep).  I also carry a small, sealed Plano 3600 series tackle tray with regulations, flares, snacks, etc...  I can almost bet you will find out 1 box full is more than enough. :smt003

I used to carry everydamnthing I could think of when I went duck hunting, ran into a few trips when I hit mud, and had to carry everydamnthing 4 miles back to the truck in mud, now I purposefully try to carry as little as I can (and I still overpack...)

Cool crate though! Looks like it was fun to make! :smt003 I love tinkering around with crap like that!
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

You pack it all if you want... I do too!  :smt007 Like leaving toys at home when you go to play... I buy the stuff to play with it.  :smt005 See ya OTW and if I need anything, I'll hunt you down :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I agree that IS a cool looking crate.  I like the swept down front edge.  Sure makes accessing the goodies easier I would guess.

sorry if my post seemed like a bash...wasn't my intention. I did a crate mod (actually 2) as well not as cool as the one youd did. Over time I found I still a crappy fisherman regardless of how much gear I take so I decided to pack less.

Looks good! I'd stick some pvc rod holders on the back/sides (for a net and a gaff) and then attach a Scotty deck mount base for a flag or light.

I like it, and Sin Coast's suggestions are good. I usually bring more gear than I need since I also don't want to regret not bringing something I could have used. However, gear that's not used is extra weight, and more work to pack and unpack. Your crate is really nice though and gives you a lot of flexibility so good job.

My outlook on the "less is more":  More gear = more to pack, unpack, etc...  Usually, I know what speciaes is in my target area & what is currently working.  I tend to focus on the basics.  If I'm loosing more than my basics, it's time to head home cuz it just isn't my day.  At first, I had a "bass boat" mentality of pack everything I own in every color.  I soon realized that I'm not covering the type of territory I would when bass fishing.  What works in one part of my reachable territory, by bass boat, may not work in the other end of the lake/river/delta.  By kayak, we are somewhat limited in range thus my goal to focus on presentation for the target species.  Time to get a bit more intimate with what I am fishing for, rather than throwing the whole tackle box at them.  Either way works & I've decorated my fare share of kelp like a christmas tree.  Im most of my fishing days, I've known what I was going after & planned a tackle tray or two the night before.

Not saying, by any means, one way is right or wrong.  Like Eric, we are out to offer our experiences (good & bad) for anyone who will listen :smt044
