In recent years the alabama rig has been making leaps and bounds in the fishing community and becoming more and more common. I have never used them and do not know how well they actually work or if they work well from the yak for trolling. has anyone done this yet? has anyone had decent success with this method? I was thinking of trying it out in the delta but i didnt know if this was something that was an un-spoken cornerstone for ridicule. what are your thoughts, 2 cents, advice, criticisms? I want to hear it all from every angle.

From a kayak...you're better off trolling it than casting it. Bcuz them things is heavy! ...you'd need Tommy John after throwing it from the seated position all day.
And yes, they apparently work.

Ha... have seen a lot of these in stores & online - lot's of folks on Clear Lake use them in tournaments, etc. I've tried tossing them (never trolling), still haven't caught anything. Too worried about snags - could be an expensive loss! Some folks really hate the idea of these things though... it's like bringing a machine gun to an arm-wrestling match, and I've been scolded more times than encouraged when the topic has come up in conversation. I understand why folks hate these things - and totally respect that. Fishing for predatory/non-native/destructive species like striped bass - I can agree with that. But I won't use them for anything else. Just another fad, something bigger & badder will be shoved down angler's throats in a few years and we'll all run out and try them...

I know a-rigs are really frowned upon in the bass fishing community, not sure what the big deal is.  I trolled one for the first time this weekend, but not from a yak.  I plan on trying it on my yak very soon though.

Verdict...they work, but if you snag one, its a lot of money down the drain.    :smt044

Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

I saw them in the clearance section of Wal-Mart already so the fad is nearing its end....  :smt005  They had to make more room for 'Duck Dynasty' braded product  :smt044

.... and yes, they do work. :smt003

yeah there was a grey area as far as the two hooks or whatever it was but the argument is that they are each an individual lure not the sum of all the hook are all on one lure/rig. i was just curious to know what they were like i might do something like this in the port, but thats about it.

Hopefully Fishing, wont ridicule me too badly.

We used a much larger version in Florida when trolling along with large teasers the size of a bowling pin & just as heavy.
