Thanks for your patience, it's been a full weekend between Occidental, OC and HMB and we hope to have the tourney wrapped in a few days.  Photos are just coming in.  This was the 5th Kayakfishing.com tournament since the inaugural tournament in 1997. The Kayakfishing.com Fall Classic will be held annually on Columbus Day weekend at Ocean Cove.

27 anglers came to the scales.  The majority had 3 fish limits over 10# and the 2nd and 3rd place winners exceeded 20#.

The Winners:
1st Place-Heaviest Fish Steve Short, Santa Rosa 17.98 lingcod (we're calling it 18# :smt005) -RTM Abaco 4.20 Fishing Kayak

2nd Place with 3 heaviest fish- Gary Charles 24.14#- RTM K Largo Fishing Kayak
3rd Place-Mike Lavoie

72 anglers registered (71 last year) and launched into good conditions after a cold Friday night for everyone sleeping outside.  I'll let the NCKA anglers give their otw reports.

We were treated to one of the best paella dinners ever to come off a pan.  Gerardspaella.com.  After fishing Saturday, the Trencherman's BBQ served 60 pounds of smoked brisket, 70# of smoked ribs, nearly 1 gallon of BBQ sauce and close to 3.5 gallons each of Martha's American potato salad, Asian coleslaw and Michelle's camp beans.  Michelle catered the whole thing, I just smoked for a couple of days (Michelle's a third generation caterer).  Dylan made a greek cuke/heirloom tomato salad off his brother Tyge's farm (all these guys fished) and we consumedabout 4 square feet of cornbread.  The Guyaki Herba Mate was flowing and I think more than half of the tournament participants got a raffle prize.

Tim "Daleshark" and Elizabeth Durant (Jake's wife), with the aid of "Team Durant"-Ashly, Chrystal, Samantha and Mooch's buddy Josh plus Papa Jake with a whip in hand (kidding), stepped up and made this event better for everyone who attended.  Their help was invaluable to me and Michelle.  MANY THANKS.  Setup, breakdown, food, raffle...you guys rocked The Fall Classic!

Jake Durant also gets credit for a rescue.  I figured that guy would swim once he said this was his first time on a kayak :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Rob Bray from Eureka and Bret's crew from L.A. made the long runs and I think one guy may have come from Bend Oregon but not sure.

The only person I didn't acknowledge at the event was Janice Fife, our photographer.  She shoots a lot of events around here and can be tracked down on Facebook.

Thanks to NCKA too for spreading the word.

Lastly for attendees, the Tournament Shirts and hoodies get here tomorrow and will all be shipped by Wednesday.

Great event, thanx Spike! It's always a great day on the water with my homies, even better when I weight a stringer at 16 lbs for fourth place, Also I'd like to give an extra big thanx to all who participated in the raffle of the fish sculptures I made, they raised 180 bucks for Joel's sister, the Mooch would be proud of y'all! It didn't have any pics, no battery, but I know There are a couple from the weigh in floating around....

Thanks Dennis and Michelle for another outstanding event.  Chef Gerard's paella was off the hook once again.  Ashley and Krystal were great helpers with the dinner and lunch and deserve a special thanks..  Lots of big lings were had by many.  Congrats to the the winners on some impressive fish.

A pleasure meeting, cooking, eating, and fishing with many of you.  I managed a dozen ling to 28" and a beautiful day on the water with some very considerate and knowledgeable people (helping me with my beginner questions, dropping lots of knowledge).

Spike ZOZI is in donating prizes next year.  Looking forward to some more of our crew getting to meet you in a month or so.

Gerard I was more then impressed with the Paella will reach out and see if we can book you cooking lunch for the team sometime when you are in SF.

Thanks Spike for the great event. I love everything about it and just love Ocean Cove. I had a great time fishing and will definitely be back next year for sure. The paella was off the hook and will try to create a batch myself soon. I caught lots of lings on the gameday around 15  biggest 33.5  kept 29 and 31  but could not find the school of vermillions I found on Friday. Hanging out with Keit, Josh, Dennis, Don Keit's brother , Rob was a great way to spend the time chilling by the fire. Keit hooked-up us up with some Blue Fin he just caught making a poke out of it and it was screaming good. I was able to get the new grill rolling busting out breakfast burritos all weekend long for anyone coming by. That grill I won from Albion is now season correctly for sure and will be busting it out in a couple weekends at the Delta. I believe in the future this event that all should paddle out of Ocean Cove, it has enough space to handle everyone launching and landing in the same spot and it makes for a much fairer competition I my mind. Oh well whatever you do keep it going and will be back for sure.
