I visited fisherman's wharf again the other day and saw baitfish in the water as I usually do.  Then as I was looking into the water (in the vicinity of Randy's Fishing Trips) and seeing the how the current flows around the pilings and concrete structures, I started imagining big 'buts laying around all the structure waiting for the unsuspecting anchovy to swim too close.  So my question is this:

Has anyone ever launched at MBK perhaps and paddled inside the wharf area to fish?  Is this allowed?  The only problem I see is making sure you stay out of the way of the charter boats.  I was thinking maybe Randy or Seabreeze or one of the other locals might have some info on this.

So with that being said, unless I get talked out of it before this weekend, anybody want to give it a shot with me on Fri, Sat, or Sun morning?

I keep my sailboat in the outer harbor there and believe that fishing is not allowed in the harbor.  I need to talk to the harbor master about an other issue though and will ask him directly.

I was able to confirm that fishing is not alowed inside Monterey harbor.  Here is a copy of the rule:

Sec. 17-32. Fishing Prohibited.

No person shall fish or attempt to take any fish or other marine life by rod and reel, net trap or any method whatever within the Monterey Marina, except for scientific purposes as approved in advance by the Harbormaster.

Well...thanks for the info...I don't like it though!  You fishing this weekend?  I'm going to try and get out somewhere local.

I promised to take the Girl Scouts out on my sailboat Sunday so probably no fishing this weekend unless my wife gives up her Saturday morning bike ride.  I am planning to take Tuesday off and fish early then either attend the DFG meeting or participate in the flotilla offshoar of the hotel.  I'll post in Hookups once I am more certain.
