Hi Everyone,

Just tried fishing from a rental kayak from Monterey Bay Kayak and I'm hooked. Thanks Joey for the intro. Been fishing for over 30 years and would of never thought of fishing from a kayak. Been trying to get out every weekend before the weather gets cold. I'm limited to fishing the kelp beds for now till my kayaking skills improve. Anyone know how much longer we have to safely kayak fish the Monterey Bay area? And are there any fish that stick around the kelp beds thru to December?

Jeff

WTTM and i'm sure that you guys down there(south of Pigeon Pt.) are closing up earlier than we do up north(of PP)
Rockfishing will close sometime soon.....north of PP usually stays open until dec31. Not sure when it closes down south.
BigJim?  do you know?

In Monterey County (Central Management Area):

Quote
The recreational fishery for rockfish (Sebastes sp.) is open year-round to divers and shore-based anglers. The fishery is open to boat-based anglers from May 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013

You can point and click on this map to see regs for any location in the State.

Ignore Jim's pictures though ..... he cleans his fish on the kitchen counter  :smt044  Only Jim can get away with THAT feat & not earn negative WAF points. :smt003

As we move into the winter months the chance of the swell being large gets greater but there are perfectly flat days in every month of the year.
