Tim you dirty dog!   :smt003
They have 'em in stock here, I spent about 20 minutes pushing buttons.  As I walked out the gal said I have til 5:00....hmm, it's 4:00 now.  Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, right?

Funny I was just on WM's site and saw that deal. Good timing. But not that great a deal IMO. I paid that much on amazon when I bought it a year ago (after the rebate)...and that was before the Elite 5 HDI came out (which is why I assume every retailer is trying to dump their remaining inventory of Elite 5's). Hopefully you guys have a better experience w/the elite 5 than I had/am having.

There was a good deal with rebate when they launched.  The Elite 5 & Elite 5 DSI are being replaced with the Elite 5 HDI ( ~ $550 with transducer & GOLD cartography).

Would it better to spend more on the hdi or save and get the dsi? are there significant differences pertaining to kayak use?

hdi is standard 2d sonar and dsi in the same unit. While I like the idea of hdi I don't want to be stuck with only that.  So I would say yes. I've been putting pennies away for a hb combo unit but I think I'll save a little more and wait for a sale on the hdi. Just my .02

Hdi units combine 4 frequencies; broadband (standard ff everyone is familiar with) AND DSI.  Up till now you had to buy one or the other (unless you bought the 7" unit).  Why this?

So, the Elite 5 & Elite 5 DSI go away & you get both in one package in the HDI.  Allows you to get high-def for shallow and broadband for deeper water.

Got questions?  Feel free to fire away and I'll do my best to answer them.
