Hola divers,  I am on a quest for a new free diving wetsuit for the Northern California coast. I have been diving the coast for 37 years, have worn out many suits, including my last, about a 8 year old Bear suit. One IMPORTANT  note....I am 5ft 9in and...145 pounds...super fit with very low body fat.  I freeze!
Looking for the best, warmest suit available... and where to buy it. Heard about CRESSI, any others? Thanks for any input, Ron

7mm does a diver good in the winter when we get some of our best visibility and water temps get lowest about 48F.

Cressi makes an affordable suit that works well, I have one!

I like the double crotch buckles instead of the single. To each their own on that.

Goodluck.

I like my Picasso. Stay very warm in it. I'm 6'2" and 165. Not much fat here either.

Hi Ron,

I have heard that Omer America has some 9mm suits.  If warmth is the highest priority, maybe those are what you're looking for.  However, I don't know what a suit in that thickness does to your range of motion.

Good luck, Nate

A size 50 or 50L would be your best bet... check with the freediveshop in Sacramento.

Fit is crucial, so go in and try on different suit brands to find the right match.
Getting the right suit makes a world of difference.

Wear speedos and bring a towel. Seriously.
You'll be getting 'lubed up' when you try on various suits.
I never really understood the whole 'lube' thing until I tried one on.
Kicking myself for not doing it years sooner. The only way to go.
Freedive shop is where I got mine. Can't go wrong there.

my son is a gymnast so very fit and pretty lean.  He likes his Mako suit.

Or you could just hit pizza and rib joints and build up a natural blubber layer and insulate naturally

I had a picasso it was pretty warm and comfortable. I replaced it with a Rob Allen. The Rob Allen was noticeably warmer and had a little bit more length in the neck. My neck is messed up so it is uncomfortable if the hood is pulling down much at all. I bought both suits at Freediveshop and don't think I would buy one anywhere else. They will take the time to fit you right.

I've got the cressi technica in a 7 mm and have yet to get cold in the 2-3 hours that I typically spend in the water -- the doubled layers through the torso puts a lot of neoprene over your core.

Any 7mm suit that is unlined on the interior should be warm enough for you, you just have to get one that fits right.
As I mentioned in another post just a second ago, I dive an imersion seriole, with high-waist pants rather than the farmer john.  It makes such a good seal that I don't even get wet unless I intentionally flood my suit.  It's great for staying warm, but sucks if you have to pee in it...

My dive buddy has a very similar build to what you describe.  He's about 5'8, 145 lbs, maybe 6% body fat.  He dives a Mako wetsuit and he is always roasting in his suit.
