If it were't for technology, we would still be fighing wars with crude blacksmith formed weapons.

Those were the days.  One had to think real hard about going to war, and if you did, you had to get close enough to look your enemy in the eye.

.... I predict that the next AC race will go back to monohulls in an effort to have more participation.  Just my 2 cents.

I hope so too.   Or at least split and have two classes.     1984 when I worked at Stephens Marine.   We had a top secret design mono hull  that we were building for Dennis Conner and crew.   Pretty exciting times.

Believe, don't believe.  Makes no difference to me.  I believe Oracle had a better team & adapted to the conditions better than NZ.  NV made a few moves that didn't work out.  ORacle showed improvements over the course of the 19 races that yielded them speed increases of 2-3mph which is all it takes to land a win.

I can always count on my buddies Eric and mAdMan to throw down a dose of reality..
These jerks have taken the whole outer bay as their on private sand box for the last 6 months. Try being a small wooden commercial fishing vessel trying to make it into pier 45 to unload while these billionaires have a private navy of fast skiffs to tell you you have to make a 2 hr deviation in course in a ripping current and are forced to navigate bad water while they play. Try being a hook and line commercial halibut fisherman in the bay with these guys out there. Think of the economic force multiplier that a single halibut brings to the bay areas economy. The fisherman, the wholesaler, the processor, restauranteur, chef, server, bus boy and finally the consumer who eats the meal. They are all shit out of luck because these silver spoon jerks wanna participate in a life of leisure. Kirk had to cancel all of his fisherman's warf tours because the elite had the public area Kirk operates from cordoned off.
The reality is that the Kiwis beat the Kiwis in a rigged exhibition of opulence. good riddance!

Couldn't the same be said every time any sporting event, olympics, etc. stages in a town?  Traffic increases & I am forced to take longer or alternative route to get home or cancel my personal plans all together?

To play devil's advocate for a bit .... the increase in revenue generatoed by people from inside/outside of the area are purchasing the meals at the restraunts on the table prepared by the bus boy, from the server, by the chef, from the processor, wholesaler and fisherman, etc...  I would guess that there was an increase of food, etc... purchased as a result of the event.  An increase that the local places would not have otherwise seen?

I would love to see the real numbers of people who actually came to see the race who weren't from the bay area.  When the Aussies won you could almost count the visitors there to be less than a few hundred.  Been that way for a long time.

So the locals don't make an economic impact when attending local events?

Supposidly there was quite a number of "out of town" attendees but I am uncertain if there is an actual count.
