I've owned the Tempest pants and jacket for a couple of years. The pants I really like.  The jacket I only use for cold weather days, I get warm and stuffy in them.  I prefer my half priced Stolquist jacket over all.

I'm not trying to bash Clavey's, but just wanted to state what happened in my conversation with them.  I saw how things got in the previous posts, but things like this do erk me a bit...sorry Craig.   :smt001

So I received mine in the mail yesterday.  Wasn't the hydrus 3L either.  Called the store and said I ordered the Hydrus 3L but received the old version.  He asked how I knew and I told him that I had the Hydrus pants already and they looked different.  Then he says that they're essentially the same thing, which I believe, but its just that they are in fact 2 different products with different warranties.  Not to mention that the older pants were being sold for much less around $99 at other stores once the Hydrus 3L versions came out.  He says he'll see if he has any of the hydrus pants in my size, but was out of stock.  When I asked if he will be getting more, he said he will be, but he won't give it to me at this price.  In my head, I was thinking, wouldn't he just be honoring my original sale??  Anyhow, he further stated that these were "old stock" he was unloading at this price which led me to think that he may have known these weren't the new hydrus 3L versions.

I didn't argue with him, just listened the whole time.  In the end, he left me with 2 options, just keep them or get refund.  I went with the refund.  Kind of bummed that he didn't opt to honor the sale by giving me what I ordered.  Oh well.

I guess I should have looked at more of the tags.  Mine were indeed the Hydrus 3L but I was actually in the store and made the purchase in person.  I got them at the sale price listed in this thread.

Guess I got lucky!  He did say that once the current stock was gone then that was it.

I wouldn't say lucky...you actually got what you paid for at the advertised price.   :smt003

Hmmm, there's a big difference between the new Hydrus pants vs the older Tropos pants. You can find the Tropos versions for under $100 all over the net: http://www.campmor.com/kokatat-tempest-paddle-pants-socks.shtml And they're totally worth $100! It's a great product. But not the same as the new Hydrus pants...which are difficult to find at a discount price.

That is exactly my point.  The guy at Clavey's just kept trying to convince me they are "esssentially the same" yet he refused to honor my deal and send me the actual Hydrus pants, just left me with option of refund or keep them.

What really bothered me is this.  I bought one thing, he sent me another.  When I had caught onto this and called them out, the first thing they did was try to convince me that they are the same as what I ordered and tried to have me keep them.  He even went as far as saying he'll confirm with Kokatat that they are the same pants, which I could care less about because they are still 2 different products.  I didn't care for any apologies, I just wanted them to make things right and they did everything but that.  Small business or not, business isn't done this way in my opinion.

Can you enlighten us to the exact difference?

This is kind of humorous as I got the right pants from Clavey's but when I ordered the matching jacket straight from Kokatat I recevied the Polartec Power Dry Liner - Men's - Large in the box instead!  They are making it right though by shipping me the correct jacket and even sent me a return label to send the liner suit back to them.  Too bad they didn't just tell me to keep the liner as it's a $157 I wouldn't have to spend in the future when it gets cold!! LOL

Sounds like they have some warehouse issues.

I've had a similar issue with the two times I ordered something from ACK.  Both times I was either missing an item or received entirely the wrong item.  To add insult to injury, I received a box from ACK one day & it was someone elses order.  How my name would up on it was a huge mystery.  The item was only $6 & they issued a Return Tag that cost them over $6.00 to get the item back.  Go figure....  On the UP side, ACK was very responsive in correcting the issue and comping me a free T-Shirt!

When I worked for a large marine retail/wholesale/internet company, we had a "policy" that if the item was less than $25 COST, just let the customer keep it.  Wasn't worth the $ spent to get it back in postage, wages, etc...

Same material. Renamed as to not be confused with other Tropos materials. Both 3 layer fabric. Some of you might make light of this but when you fuck with someones  livelyhood you should have your shit straight.

This is what Kokatat said.

"Hydrus 3L is an improved and renamed version of our T3 material.  It uses the same high quality waterproof barrier and outer fabric and has a new inner fabric that helps promote wicking.  Only the Hydrus 3L is backed by a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship."

So..almost same material, different price, different warranty = different product.  That's the way I see things.  Bottom line is I didn't receive what I ordered.  Everyone else seemed to have received the hydrus pants, why should I be stuck with the old shit?  Anyhow, I don't think I was doing anything wrong by sharing my experience and definitely not messing with their livelihood by telling the truth.  Like all businesses, some will have good and bad experiences and mine just happened to be bad.  Oh well, that is life.  I will stop my rant here.    :smt001
