Anybody know what the story is on Muir Beach right now? Is it open, any access, workaround, climb fences, cut holes in fences, etc?

I want to make a run up that way and Bolinas is too much drive for my short window, I need the closest launch available. Next option is Stinson and swell is reasonable but rather have the sheltered cove and less driving time

Thanks, seriously chomping at the bit with a new yak and not enough time

It is launch-able from the naked beach but you have to get there on back roads unload and drive back to the highway to park, hike in and then reverse order when you get out, very time consuming and not worth the time. The new lot should re-open in November. With the swell down as much as it is you might try Rodeo beach (Cronkite). Park by the lagoon bridge then wheel down to the middle of the cove. It is a surf launch but should be very doable tomorrow. Don't go South around Bird rock, it gets dicey around Pt Bonita. Good luck.

I've thought about rodeo before but every time I've ever been there it was a pretty nasty exposed break

Currents make that whole stretch dicey so always preferred staying north of it. Been through there enough times in a boat to want to stay clear of it

Stinson should be launchable next few days

Thanks

I think Stinson will be your best bet.

I surf Rodeo sometimes, and even on small days it's got a pretty nasty shore pound because of the sand shelf. Not somewhere I'd want to launch, but I'm sure it's doable.

I'm still working on freeing up some time this weekend.

Going to a "party" with my girlfriend's extended family on Saturday evening should buy me a beach day on Sunday, right? I think so...

Rodeo scares the piss out of me. The break is insane, and it gets deap fast. Almost lost a dog there once; frisbee in the wind then out to sea. Damn pitbulls won't give up. Plus of all the Marin beaches I've frequented, I've seen the most headless aquatic mammals washed ashore at Rodeo.

Stinson is so much more chill.

I did a yard sale there before I knew what it was called.  I collected what gear I could find, (I lost a mirage drive there),
put my yak on wheels and tucked my head down and left.    :smt010

I only launch there when there is no wind and no swell which is about 2-3 days a year. The other day was one of those days, otherwise I would not recommend it to anyone. I've been surfing the break for 25+ years so I'm familiar with how the shore break works and even then I have a hard time getting out without getting soaked. When it is doable though its one of the few place I can go fish on the coast if I only have a couple of hours.  Stinson is always a way better choice.

Stinson is good, as long as the lifeguard supervisor isn't watchdogging the place No launching on his beach so have to walk north to the borderline

Rather just do the extra drive to Bolinas

Problem is I have half a day to work with these days so not worth the drive

Are you saying the lifeguard dude won't let you launch even up by the Sea Drift entrance gate? I've never tried it, but I've been planning to at some point.

Ive launched Stinson for years no problem, then the supervisor came along once and sent me up the beach, wouldnt let me go way down on the south end where the beach is pretty much deserted

Dont know what the Sea Drift entrance gate is, Id say if you want to launch there just go and see what happens

Am wondering about parking south of the beach somewhere, just never looked into what kind of access there is

unless I hit the lotto I wont be doing any more northside excursions this year
