What kind of fish is this?

Friend is out in hawaii, just sent this pic asking what type of fish it is.  Someone caught this fish in the surf. 

Almost looks like a tang fish I used to have in my reef tank, but this looks way bigger.   Any ideas?

Most likely part of the tang family.

What a nice looking fish. It looks like a sailfin tang, Zebrasoma velifer.
