Today I finally shot my first halibut!!!!!!!!   

Went to an area I have been to many times before...3 hours into the hunt, I start to get that familiar sinking feeling in my stomach...I hand grab a few octopi and eat one and save three for dinner to keep my morale up.

After another hour I pop a scallop and eat it underwater for extra mojo.

I start heading in shallower, but still hunting...and I finally see what I have been looking for....on the edge of the sand and eel grass I see two eyes and a toothy mouth...I take aim and blast the butt right behind the head and all hell breaks loose!! 

The butt erupts from the sand and swims up the shaft and takes off across the eel grass...fuzz' words ring in my head...let him run and then track him down...I surface and breathe up and get my knife out and then dive down and find the butt hiding in the grass...see the tail and the body but the head is hidden...say fuck it and stab it right in mid body and wrestle the bastard to the surface...run the spear through its gills and out the mouth and I know the halibut is mine!!!!!

Take my time hugging, petting, kissing and admiring the fish before swimming to shore!!

Tapes out at 29.5 inches. My first speared halibut ever, and PB not on a PB. 

Roe, head and octopi for dinner. Filets for later.

Never hunted one fish for so long in my life...special thanks to fuzz for keeping me focused and tips on technique, and to all of you for encouragement and believing in me.

Are you sure that's legal?  Aren't they supposed to be 30" minimum?  I don't think that fish should count for DOTY.
