These are great counting reels and strong poles for $50! I have one and the counter is accurate and really comes in handy, just thought I'd pass the info along.

How long have you had your Cabelas linecounters? How many trips on the salt ? I went through a couple inexpensive linecounters priced between $50 - $100 that only lasted 2-3 trips before failing. My current linecounter is a Diawa Sealine and has lasted two years and 25+ trips.

Wish I didn't read this before I went to Reno. Now I'm gonna have to go to Cabelas, lol. My new salmon rod snapped in the American last week. My silvetron got stuck on a log while trolling down river and I guess I forgot to loosen my drag an well ¡SNAP! Thanks for the heads up

is there a way to tell if one of the reels in the list of combos as you scroll down is a left handed? i cant tell personally. i have fished with spinning reels my whole life and i love the handle on the left side so if i end up getting a bait caster i will want the handle on the left as well. so back to the original question, is there a way to tell which is which?

Usually a reel will end in L in the p/n.  Not a lot of reels are offered in lefty.

I've looked before, this reel is not offered in lefty.  You're gonna have the same problem as me when it comes to lefty conventional reels, not many available on the market...it just sucks.   :smt009

The only lefty linecounter reel I've found so far is this okuma reel.

They also have a Cabela's reel, depthmaster gold, but it is only sold at stores, not online.

I think it's just a rebranded Daiwa Accudepth reel. And those rods kinda suck. I have one. They'd probably be ok if you trolled on a downrigger from a boat. But they aren't really up to the task of kayak fishing in the ocean. I've gone through a number of cheapo (under $120) linecounters and the best "bang for your buck" was the Okuma Convector (like $70-80). But if you want a good quality linecounter that will last for years (and under $120), I agree with LilRiverMan--the Daiwa Sealine is a great reel!

I don't have a long term report on the combo yet but I like that I've seen no moisture in the counter window yet. I've also made some stupid mistakes trolling and not paying attention.. the rod is very strong. I don't have a yak yet, fish from my motorboat and far from a pro.
Two year Cabella's warranty as well. I like a bargain so this works for me.. I spend way too much on fishing!

Ok guys, I need help -
I have a "novice" question - if I get one of these, which one do I get?

They have multiple pole lengths, as well as line weight and application (trolling, lead core, downrigger, planer board, diver).

I have NO IDEA how to choose the right pole length, line weight (well, ok, I can figure out that one) and application...well, I don't have a DR yet, but I like the idea of getting the line down faster.

I think the thing about this one I liked most was the counter...and the price, haha.
