I used to use MapSource from Garmin with my GPS to plan routes and estimate trip distances but since I rebuilt my PC I no longer have the charts to go with the s/w.  Found this website and it does pretty much the same thing, but no software needed.  Check it out!  Oh yeah, and it's for iPhone and iPad too.
