From the rim fire? I've seen a pic from Oakland and heard it can be seen in coalinga. This fire went from 800 to 11000 overnight the next night it went from 16000 to 53000 and last night it went to 105000. Cherry lake and Eleanor are burning and they may be evacuating the city of tuolumne today.

I saw that two days ago and thought it was a thunder cloud. Then realized it may be smoke. Did not follow up, but now I'm pretty sure what I saw

Getting hit from both sides here in Placerville, with the addition of the American fire on the Tahoe NF. Visibility is less than a mile.

RacinRob - you were seeing the column from the American Fire on the Tahoe NF.  I think they are at about 60% containment on that one last I checked.

The Rim fire is out of control.  We had to evacuate several of our field crews.  Here's a link to the current fire perimeter - as Mike stated, it has blown from 15K acres to 105K acres in the last 48 hrs.  Several communities at risk, almost took out the Forest Service Ranger District office in Groveland - still at risk.  Has burned through some prime trout fishing stream/rivers as well.  This one will be interesting to watch.

I could see the (auburn?) fire last week from Folsom Lake.  Looked like an A-Bomb went off.

It was the southern fire John for sure. I live directly across from the American fire and know exactly where that is.

Let's pray for a little rain to help the men & women out who are up there feverishly trying to battle these blazes.

Here's one of several videos from a tanker dropping retardant on the Rim fire, interesting perspective.

Until this morning, we've been dodging smoke from the American Fire and the Rim Fire.  That ended about 9am.  Sitting on the front porch, reading my newspaper and drinking my coffee, the smoke rolled in like a fog.  Visibility dropped to less than 1/2 mile.

There's no amount of property worth even one life.  I sure hope those firemen and their bosses realize this.  Let it burn and don't get hurt!!  Believe me, as a survivor of a wildland fire, you can and do come back from it.

Interesting perspective?   Understatement of the year!   That is insane.  I may have just gone back into A-fib.   Landing gear, landing gear, landing gear
