I would like to take my wife salmon fishing on our kayaks. She is not up to a 10 mile round trip paddle. I am looking for suggestions on launch locations that are at most a five mile round trip to reach good kayak salmon fishing. Preferably someplace with milder conditions and not a high likelihood of being run over by a power boat. Thanks ken

It was a mile or less to the fish at Albion. But I think they were slowing down there. I'm sure they are there still, but it will be hit or miss on a hook up. Still paddled at least 5-8 miles in circles for 3 days each

That would be a blast. I forgot to mention, no ocean. I am hoping to find a Delta launch. Thanks.

THe fishing is still really hit and miss up there, your best bet is to jig the deep holes on the sac from freeport and north.

Watch out for PB'ers

Great, thanks for the info. I understand the run is not in yet. I am looking ahead so I can be ready. Now I know where to watch. Thanks.  Ken

When the run come through, will this area fit her needs, ok paddle and not a bunch of wild power boaters? Where is the closest launch to this area? Thanks ken

tons of boats near freeport.  some of them throw pretty big wakes since its the Sac.  the paddle isn't too bad but there can be some current.

honestly the AR is the easiest to fish from a kayak, and its not even close.  worst thing that can happen on the AR is you can't make it up top and you have to drift down to the next take out and find a way to go home.  boats generally go pretty slow through the AR..since its the law.

Are you saying it is a steep river bank at the take out? Is it necessary to do a one way trip? If so, what are the best take out spots to leave a vehicle at?

I suppose, but I was thinking more about room to park and reasonable access to the water.  :smt001

the AR is steep in a few places but that's not the problem, its that vehicle public access is limited to a few places and its a long *ss walk home down the parkway.  its difficult to get in trouble on the AR while kayaking since its right in the smack dab middle of town.

I mean that there is some current so it can be difficult to paddle back up depending on your wife's  ability.  but I would say that pretty much anyone should be able to handle the drift down to the pumphouse from Howe Avenue access and paddle home.  Howe is one of the safer access points and it is easy to drop into the water from there.  the water is a little easier to paddle than in other places like gristmill or <SECRET SPOT DELETED>, and its shorter drive than sunrise from solano county.

At the very worst, launch at howe, can't make it home? drift down to campus commons, pick up the kayaks, drag them through the golf course and take a taxi back to your car/have someone pick you up..
