suggestions for a 40# rod/reel on a 2 day san diego trip

Hey guys,

i'm going to go on a 2 day trip on the ocean odyssey in san diego and i'm looking at getting a 40# rig. I was thinking of just using my ugly stik tiger 20-50 + penn 320gt2 (taking the leverwind off and putting 50lb braid on it). I'm also thinking of just buy an avet lx + some sort of used calstar or seeker? i'm trying to cheap out on this becuase i'm limited on funds because of the trip and because i'll most likely never use this rod/reel set up after this trip.

I currently have:

calstar grafighter 800xl + avet sx with 50lb test 200~yard braid (15#-20#)
calstar wc 270 + avet mxj 2 speed 50lb 400~yard braid (25#-30#)

seekers are usually a good bet, i like the american series but it seems to be missing from their line up, next seeker i get will be the pin head with an avet mx. 

You can't go wrong with either set up. I to like the seeker rods and Avet reels. Most of the boats do have rental rods, and they are usually high quality. can save you a few bucks.

Yea, you can get avets for around 150 with the 10% discount at Mel cottons.

not for a avet lx.

LX works wonders on the yellowtail. I would not bother taking the levelwind off your reel...I've seen fish lost on reels with the levelwind removed.

i am thinking of cheaping out and maybe get a penn squall 40 or shimano tld20 or daiwa seagate 40

i just picked up a squall 40. hopefully it should be fine with my ugly stik tiger, if not i was thinking of a MH tervala or a calstar 670. i know there are some tuna guys here, anyone want to chime in? i'm going on the 24th so i want to get these things quick.
