Not sure if this goes here or not but I thought gear, eh? Why not.  I've been kayak fishing in the tropics only and my kayaks get delivered tomorrow and I'm planning on going out but I realized that I don't have anything covering my lower half besides a pair of swim shorts... I bought a kayak jacket for splashes spray but what do you guys wear for your lower half? Dry suit? Wet suit? Waders? I'm currently thinking I would wear my jacket plus a set of wading trousers, would that do it? Is there any gear you guys would recommend?

I used to wear a farmer john bottom over a long sleeved shirt, paddle jacket and PFD.
I bought a Kokotat dry suit and now that's what I wear.
Conditions and weather also determine how I'll dress. Sometimes a dry suit is just too hot.
Just remember to dress for immersion.

Look into a farmer john bottom from NRS. Make sure you get something with a relief zipper- so you can pee if you need to.

Another option is the Tempest pant from Kokotat. Has integrated booties and is waterproof, and you can layer underneath it.

If you own both (in time) you can dress for conditions, using both on really cold days.

Awesome, thanks guys.  I really didn't want to wear a suit because I hated getting into my wetsuit back in Hawaii so I think I'll check out the farmer john bottoms since I have a NRS jacket already.

I like the Lavacore products - separate top (full sleeve, half sleeve or sleeveless) and bottoms (long or short). I currently have the full sleeve top and long bottoms. They are about 3mm neoprene with a really warm fleece-like lining. They're super comfortable to paddle in and provide decent warmth when you get dunked in cold water. I like them over my regular wetsuit as when you're not in the water, the lining makes it waaay more comfortable.

5mm Farm John's and 5mm booties. I have an old North Face water proof soft shell I use to cover for spray and added warmth. I may get a dry suit at some point.

I'm always cold.  I stay in my wetsuit all day with my pfd zipped up.  If I get cold, I put a hooded sweatshirt into my dry bag and put that on under my pfd.  The hood keeps the wind off the ears.

I used Kokotat products.  They are made for what we do.  It didn't matter if I used separate tops and bottoms, they never failed.  And when I got a hook through them, they repair easily.
But just to be cool and look like all the other dudes who have a yellow kayak with a yellow dry suit, I bought the Kokotat dry suit this year. It is worth the money in my opinion.

Kokatat tempest pants and top. Mysterioso top, bottom and socks, For under the kokatat. Chota Mukluk boots. Just my 2 cents.
