Hello everyone, I'm Steve. I'm recently retired and a life long resident of Humboldt County. I've been duck hunting from my scull boat on Humboldt Bay and surrounding waters since the 1960's, so kayaking seems like a natural progression for me.

I met one of your members, Brandi, at my sister's on Christmas Eve 2012 and she told me about salmon fishing and crabbing. At her suggestion I checked out the many videos on YouTube. I was hooked!

I've spent a lot of time here as a guest trying to learn as much as possible. I made the leap and bought a 2013 Hobie Outback awhile back and have taken it out on the Bay twice in calm water. It seems 100 times safer than a scull boat :smt001, but there is a learning curve for sure. Plus I'm not as young as I used to be. I've got a PFD, FJ wet suit, a VHF radio. I have all the fishing gear already except for a few minor things.

As I get stronger and more confident, I'm looking forward to hooking up with someone and doing some rock fishing and crabbing. I think it will be awhile before I head out the JAWS of Humboldt Bay like LoletaEric and Brandi though.

I chose the name NotaSeal because I was thinking of writing it on the bottom of my kayak for the sharks.

Thanks for this great site and your friendship!

Steve

Welcome Steve. If you are ever wanting to go out just post a hookup and most of the time you get somebody that is willing to go with you. Maybe I will see you on the water some time!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I took my kayak out on Humboldt Bay yesterday. I logged almost 6 miles. I think my Outback likes me! I think we'll be a good team.
