Yakkers:

I have been a lurker for a while but didn't feel justified in posting until I had bought a yak and at least had a paddle ... well I am totally stoked as I snuck out of work yesterday morning to meet with WipEout (aka Kenny) and bought his Jackson Cuda 14 yesterday morning, and it was in the water by that evening for a test drive, and it couldn't have been better. Went to bed with a huge smile on my face and woke up with it still on there. WipEouT is a seriously cool guy, he gave me a great deal to get me into the sport, was extremely helpful, generous, and honest... the boat was in pristine condition as he is a perfectionist and takes really good care of his gear. So the bottom line is that I couldn't have asked for a better introduction and welcome into the sport from a true ambassador, so a major shout out to WipEout. Thank you.

I am a South African from Durban, and while new to yak fishing am not new to the ocean or fishing, I am an avid kitesurfer, supper, and spearo (amongst other things), and am really looking to getting to know many of you as I have seen a bunch of yakkers down in half moon bay many of whom I suspect are on this board.

Seems like we have some amazing potential on our coastline here and I am stoked to be getting to know it.

Totally stoked about the new boat, the new possibilities it brings, and the potential to meet some wonderful people through this new sport, that seems to offer such freedom and potential. have a lot to learn, will contribute to the community as much as I can, and am looking forward to meeting more of you and starting the journey.

All the best,
Russ

Welcome Russ!!!!!!

Stoked that you had a good experience with kenny and that you got that sweet yak!!  :smt007 :smt007

Dude...tons of good spearing around here. Let me know if you want to come explore down here in Monterey/Carmel sometime.   :smt001

Check out our friendly Diver Of The Year (DOTY) competition as well...great way to get to know the different species on this coast and challenge yourself to try and shoot them.  :smt004

Jim:

Yep, Kenny is the man and hooked me up like a champ, ironically while doing my research a big reason I have been searching for a cuda was your comments about being totally satisfied with yours ... and the youtube clip etc ... you seem to have a special forces, black ops paint job going on.

Thanks for the link and the info on the number of posts/site access, that answers a question I had because some times I searched and clicked on links and was told I had no access.

Jim, would LOVE to tag along on any dive trip you put together, I have a lot to learn. Alas, August is full up for me with family commitments but after that merely name a place and time and I will be there  ... as the low man on the totem pole I will make myself useful by bringing beer/snacks/loose women etc and staying out of the way of the serious divers ...

Appreciate your kindness, Russ

LOL! No worries Russ. I'm sure you will have fun on the Cuda.  :smt001

Once you are free in September, let me know and we will make a plan to get together and go out and chase some fishies.

Last September we did a fun little fundraising comp to raise some $ to help fund research to try and find a cure for cancer.

Top2Bottom, Yak Anglers vs Divers. Rod n Reel versus Cold Hard Steel. Hookers versus Shafts. Floaters versus Sinkers. :smt004

Think it's about time to start planning to do it again. T2B2!!   :smt004

Here are pics and vid of last years event.  Would post the link to the report but you wouldn't be able to see it yet.  :smt002 :smt005

Thanks for the hospitality folks ... very fortunate to have this resource and community available and I'm super pumped to be part of this community.

First day out on the water fishing will be tomorrow at HMB with a few of the local NCKA crew so expecting to learn a lot ... should be very interesting on many levels.

Russ

Trust me, I'm always at HMB. As much as possible, I like fishing close to my house
