I was on the Delta this last week end for a get together with some flyfishermen from Kiene's flyfishing forum and the event was called Kiene's  bass buggers outing.
The fishing was good if you could stand being on the water. The temp hit 114 I believe. It's bucketmouth season on the Delta. The best time was late evening to early morning. One hard core by the name of David Lee  hit the water about 1:00am and came off late morning Saturday. We partied in the shade till evening then Joseph Narcarvizt who had came up from Santa Barbera and I  hit the water. we worked the tules in front of Lundbords  landing where the event took place till dark. Bass fishing in the Delta is all presentation. It's an accurate cast to a hole in the slop or up against the tules. I caught two fat twelve inchers that reminded me why I love top water bass fishing.
The water was only about 4 ft most of the time and covered with broken tule shafts  and other debre, slow pedaling the mirage drive I was able to cut right through it and keep casting at the same time. Honest fact .The meaner I am to the Mirage Drive the more impressed I am.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

No doubt, the Mirage Drive comes in really handy when there's lot's of current or lots of distance to cover. I sometimes feel I'm in a mini bassboat :smt002

Good deal on the delta. Will be going there for the Striper action but only once the heat takes it easy!!

I do love a good topwater bass bite and probably should get a guide in the delta.
I have read about the casting required and I think you probably should have said it takes an "insanely accurate" cast.
Gotta love an explosion on a frog.

Out of curiosity, what patterns were you using?
Glad you had a good time.

I used a flie I haven't tied or cast in years, a Dahlberg a sand colored one . I thiink about a size 6;it was a birthday gift from David Lee. A frog colored one would have been even better.
