Building my own gaff

That would be sweet!  Need to make a gaff for Sara's brother.

Man, I cant seem to find any gaff hooks anymore.  Went to FW and they say they dont carry them anymore?  Can only seem to find them in sets of 10 online...  Anyone have extras?

Let me know if you wind up ordering.....I'd like to put together a couple with a 2" hook.

Might do that as well... Could make a few more gaffs.  Have lots of redwood branches that have fallen that make great floating gaffs if anyone needs!

Al, I get them when I pass through Rohert park, the pro shop has several sizes.
I pick up a few each time, just to have some on hand.

Still need to wrap a handle,but ran out of rope. Ended up with a 21" hardwood table leg from lowes for about $5.

Thanks. Does the hook seem to big? I've got no clue what I'm doing never used a gaff so as for hook size I'm lost. Here's the hook I have for your brother in law. To big?

Looks great to me! Going to "hunt" for the perfect handle for it this week in my back yard 

Still need to wrap a handle,but ran out of rope. Ended up with a 21" hardwood table leg from lowes for about $5.

Keep an eye on that thin area of the handle near the wrap.  I used the same table leg (twice) for my fire poker stick. 
The first one broke right there in that lower strength area just by tapping on a piece of firewood a few time too many, while drinking beer, BS'ing beside the fire.  The second one broke while I was digging around the ashes stirring in water to put out my campfire.   I have since switched my fire poker iron over to some crazy strong branch I found along the river. 

I can see that area being the week spot if you gaff a big fish and it slams it up against the side of your kayak in protest. 

Looks awesome otherwise!
