Bushy and I recently joined some of the Johnson Outdoors Pro Staff in the NW for a 4-day float  trip down the John Day River.  Our report is here ... http://www.kayakfishingmagazine.net/articles/102-current-issue-featured-articles-on-kayak-fishing/1752-kayak-canyon-bassin.html

This trip is a ton of fun, and anyone looking for a multi-day adventure may want to consider it.  The flows are too low now for the rest of summer, but in the fall there are good possibilities for a combo steelhead/smb trip.  I know we're considering it.

very cool, nice article, I assume the predator is mostly a river boat then? How is it to paddle such a wide boat in flat water and in rapids?

Actually the Predator 13 is more of a lake/flats boat.  The Predator MX is designed for some rivers.  But we couldn't get our hands on the MX as it hasn't quite gone into production.  We had no real issues with the 13 on the waters we encountered.

I've heard nothing but awesome things about the John Day. I would love to try that someday.

Sounds like a blast!

Those 1 foot class river smb are good eating in a frying pan. Have another pan with some fried potatoes and onions. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it  :smt005

Sounds like you wouldn't put a dent in the fish population either.

I'm wondering if there are any walleyes in the lower reaches.

I'm sure there might be, but no one talks about them.  There is some good catfishing in the stretch we were in.  Accidentally left a rod out overnight in a shallow run that you wouldn't normally think catfish were in, but we were camped there, so what the heck, put the catfish rods out.  Well, woke up to a catfish the next morning.

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Old Town released a video of the trip. I got a little air time.  Sporting an NCKA shirt too!
