Launched at the base of the jetty easy launch short carry. Was going to fish the beach for buttes but it was so nice I decided to paddle out to the buoy. Trooched for and hour with no love all the PBs were headed straight out. In the past I have caught a few big buttes half way beetween bodega rock and the south buoy just inside the reef that runs between the 2 1st drop hooked a nice silver about 8-9lbs then an underling and a small blue. Worked closer to the rock and hooked 2 small buttes, then fished the beach for Nada so I came home with no dinner but what great weather little bumpy at the buoy but inside it was glass the biggest waves were from the PBs. There were a lot of people fishing for buttes didn't see any caught only bait I could catch were jacksmelt. The amount of cars  and people at the coast was unbelievable.

Hey Mike,

Yeah ive been out to Bodega a few times recently. Went all the way down the beach towards another beach down there. Maybe Indian beach? I forget what it is called, but a good place i was told for Butts.  Fished the rocks down there with no luck.  The Beach runs directly into the buoy , if that helps. I fished the other side of the buoy , lots of snags and im sure some of them are due to lings.  The ocean side of the rock is a good spot for me.

Where may I ask are you catching your bait? Tomales is a piece of cake for me, but havent found my fav spot at Doran yet. im sure there is plenty with the help of some cat fodder.

Are you trolling for the butts or just drifting?

Gracious!

Mike-I got skunked there on Friday too, but I got a real late start.  I had to work a til about 4 at Bodega Marin Lab. It was super flat, but a ton of returning boat traffic.  To make it worse two of my employees that had the whole day off rolled up in their PB with 3 HUGE salmon and teased me about having to work... :smt013 :smt005.

Loch-I used a trick I learned down south for making bait and just trolled a sabiki and caught bait like crazy inside the harbor, but a lot of the smelt were too big, but flatties love a smaller jacksmelt.

From what I heard on the radio 12-17 miles.

Thanks Bro,

Yeah we were throwing the cast net from the doran launch but too many people in and out.  Its not the easiest thing throwing from the boat..  :smt003  .  So quick simple question..  Is the sabiki rig considered having a rod out? I would assume so but always wondered.

Yes the sabiki counts as a rod out.

I fished Spud Point yesterday with my UL just to get out of the friggin' heat. The harbour is packed with huge smelt. We also managed to work a school of shiner perch into a frenzy, and a buddy of mine was pulling up some huge mackerel from a PB on Friday.

Was thinking about taking the yak out there this afternoon.
