I'm planning to camp at Courtright reservoir soon and am starting to wonder if my fishy-smelling kayak is going to be an issue. I would hate to have a bear chew a hole through my kayak while sleeping. Anyone have any first hand experience or suggestions on this issue?

That's one option. Any others?

Wash your kayak? With the Fresno heat, it should dry in no time. This will also give you a chance to inspect your kayak for damage.

Hang your kayak on a tree along with the food  :smt003

I don't see a problem with the bear thinking your kayak is a meal as long as you have nothing stored inside.
I've never heard of a bear tearing up a kayak because it smelled.

Ok, great. I have stored my landing net in the yak, and the net, and now the yak, smell a little fishy. Sounds like I can cross that off my list of things to worry about.

I think ATD is dead on. I leave my hatch open so if one gets curious he can just look and see that its not food in there.

Pine sol is the best bear deterrent. Soak some rags. Triangle camping is also effective, sleep on one corner up wind, then have your kitchen and food/gear hung on the other... Put 100yds between corners..

I heard once that old style moth balls were a deterrent.  On the other hand, I saw a porcupine eat handles off fishing rods and half a brillo pad - just in case you get the bear thing licked and are looking for something to worry about.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think porcupines are going to make it to my worry list, Fuzzy Tom, but I'll put them on standby.

If a bear does tear into my kayak, I will try to get video.

Don't leave anything in your kayak and leave the hatches open.
