Some of us were discussing the way we think the deep 6 divers work and since it was our first time using them, we really didn't have much of an understanding on how they work.  For the double deep 6, there is size 1 which is 4oz, and size 2 which is 7oz.  Just trying to see if my understanding of the way it works is right or not.  For example, lets say you want to achieve a depth of 40ft.  Does that mean you will need to let out more line with the size 1 vs size 2 in order to achieve that depth?

I am also curious where the diving depth rating comes from.  For example size 1 says it dives to 90ft.  Does that mean with X amount of line and with boat moving, the diver won't go any deeper than 90ft kind of like crankbaits made for certain depths?

I gotta hear the answer to this one

Everything you need to know is in this article.
http://www.leeroysramblings.com/Diver_Trolling.htm

At 2-3 MPH
the 001 Double Deep Six usually pulls at a 30-45 degree angle.
the 002 Double Deep Six usually pulls at a 45-55 degree angle.
There is a chart in the article to figure out the depth. Note that in the chart 1 pull = 2 feet. On party boats, 1 pull = 1 foot.

The larger plane dives at a steeper angle so you have to let less line out to achieve the desired depth, however it creates more drag. I use the 001 DD6 to troll from 20-70 feet down. Deeper than that I switch to a DR. Really it's a guess what depth you are at using a diving plane. Since I got a  Hobie I have become really fond of them. Line counter reels are great for diving planes.

That's a helluva a deal. I think I just paid $15 or so at Bay Tackle (although I'd MUCH rather support them than KMart).

Which KMart was that? I might have to set my morals aside for a bit... :/

I'm going to hit K-Mart tonight to see what they have.  I've spent enough at A.C., Sports Authority & Dicks the past two nights trying to get things ready for this trip & a camping trip next weekend on the pontoon boat at Lake don Pedro.
