I made a solo trip to Berryessa today.  Not being a bass fisherman I wanted to try it anyway so after visiting a friend who regularly fishes for bass and getting some lures and ideas I hit the lake.  I went early for obvious reasons.  It was still damn hot when I launched at Oak Shores at 7 AM.  I trolled with dodger and crawler out to the Big Island before deploying my bass gear.  I tried all sorts of lures and methods but to no avail.  The fish mocked me most of the morning by jumping all around me.  On the way back to the launch I observed something in the distance that I saw earlier in the morning that appeared blue and black.  I assumed it was another kayaker or ?  When I approached it became clear it was an abandoned Orca towable floatation device and a blue tow tube.  I towed it over to Oak Shores and gave them to the kids playing there.  So I actually caught an Orca…….right?  Anyway I hauled out at 11:30, took a dip in the lake and headed home.  No fish but a nice paddle in do-able heat.  A few photos…

It was dead calm this AM.

The only fish I caught all day!

It's hot and I'm outa here!

Thanks for the orca sighting report! Many/most of us would have a tough time successfully bass fishing in that mega-heat. Hats off for trying!

I need to get over there after this heat breaks and try some deeper jigging for the wayward crappies.

Kokoloco:  let's hook up sometime and I can show you around trout and bass.  Da Berry is my home turf.  Also open to anyone else interested either yak or I can seat +4 in my PB.
