im making a pvc gopro mount and im just curious what should i use to mount it to the kayak? should i just get a scotty flush mount and slide it in there or is there some kind of flange? i will post pics of the project as i start building. also id like it to be able to swivel so i can have it over my right shoulder or spin it over to my left shoulder. thanks guys

1" ram ball. I like the diamond mount as it's the smallest footprint. Then you can attach to 3/4" pvc with this part......

There is just about a million different ways to build a kayak pole mount for a GoPro but here is how I ended up building mine. It might give you some ideas and costs. I didn't use PVC because I wanted the flexibility of height control plus something a little more rigid but without the weight of some of the standard paint pole mounts. I started with a cheap paint roller, pulled the metal rod/roller out of the plastic handle and cut the flanged top off. Next was to drill a larger hole through the top of the handle. Then I screwed the machine screw through the plastic into the tripod mount with the SS fender washer in between the two. After that was tight I filled the back of the screw with a little high strength glue to keep it from coming loose and backing out. The pole mounts in the rear stock flush mount rod holders. The last picture is it in action.

Parts list
(Lowes)
Blue Hawk 3-in Heavy Duty paint roller # 323861 $1.68
Quickie 5-FT extension pole # 93100 $5.78
3/4" foam pipe insulation $1.19
(Best Buy)
GoPro Tripod mount $7.99
(Ace Hardware)
SS Fender washer $0.25
SS Machine screw $0.15

Total $17.04

I actually pretty much did the same as Erik. I just eliminated the paint roller part cut the threaded end off the pole and plugged the hole with a wood dowel and some jb weld then drilled a hole for a 1/4" 20 bold to mount the go pro tripod mount to. works great and is super light.
