Lost a beautiful salmon at the net yesterday.  It hurt but feels good knowing they are around.  Gonna hit it again Saturday morning early.  Hopefully have some company this time.  I'll be there around 5am setting up.

Let's get em guys!

Josh

Hi Josh,

Are you using a downrigger, or weights?

I start with a hootchie behind a banana weight in the shallower waters.  I've been using 5oz weights but some use up to 8oz.

Then when I get past the 100 ft depth I switch to a deep six / flasher / anchovy set up.

I've never used a downrigger.

I think Im gonna avoid the Santa Cruz crowds and tag along with you Josh. I may troll rapalas for an unlikely T shark instead of Salmon gear.

Josh,  bummer on the lost fish earlier this week but it seems to me that you will likely be the first guy south of the Bay to land a yak salmon "TROLLING"

Good luck buddy!

Careful with that. To Fish and Wildlife, that's gonna look a lot like salmon trolling with barbed trebles. Not sure what the rules are on that if you don't actually possess a salmon...

No worries. I'll be using steel leaders so I will likely not even hook up a Salmon. Even if I do hook one I'd not keep it.

Good call Matt...I heard there is some kind of Lazer sailing championship going on this wknd in SC. Plus, I saw the partyboats returning from Pinos today at lunchtime...wonder how they did.

As long as you don't have a salmon on-board, I believe you can be fishing for almost anything.

Right on.  Should be pretty calm early.  Lot's of boats out today just off the kelp beds.  Not sure what they were fishing for but definately more boats than normal.

I want to go so bad. If a super hot bite comes up I'll drop this BS and get down there. But until then, I'm F'd.
