So, I am a perpetual tinkerer, I have probably spent more time tying flies than fly fishing, I build my own rods, build my own spinners for trout, have done a limited amount of my own plastic worms, have my own lead pot, cast my own bullets for a bunch of pistol calibers and have a tote full of different Do-it molds I have collected over the years (which means I can cast many smaller jigs and sinkers,) so I am compulsive.

When I started jigging for salmon last year, I was struck with how simple the jigs are, how most are pretty crude designs, not carried out that well, yet they all cost so damn much new?

Does anyone know how I can make a mold for lead-casting a gibbs minnow-type jig of my own design?

I have a few sheets of designs, a hundred pounds of lead, just no idea how to shape a casting cavity without paying someone $300 to CNC-route an aluminum plate....
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

There are ways to make lead molds with other materials like bondo or high temp rtv silicon but the molds are temporary. You'll get maybe 50-75 lures before the mold is making unacceptable castings. If you go this route I make mine out of a mix of fiberglass resin and bondo that I pour around a wood master. Works ok but needs constant repair from burns and cracks easily. I use .050 or so stainless wire to reinforce the mold and the more the better.

Best bet is to go with the do-it mold closest to the lure you are looking to make. Nothing beats aluminum at the price they charge with the added benefit of readily available wire forms.

Hey sorry I think you sent me a message to my email but I couldn't respond. Bondo works great as does the high temp red silicone. I have a mold that does 1,2,3,4,6,8,10, &12 oz irorns similar to a mega bait. I think doit does habe some decent molds. Zeiners has the best prices and shipping service if you decide to try doit.

Rather than CNC,,,  couldn't it be poured as an aluminum casting?

Yes do-it does cast aluminum molds.  The flutter lure might be closer to what you are looking for. Here's a list of what Do-It has. If zeiners doesn't stock it they will get it too.

Oh damn, well those are plain-Jane, but hard to beat at that price. There is a shad-wiggle spoon that looks a lot like a Duh-jig too..
