Nice fish!
Sounds like a great way to spend a vacation  :smt003

Those wolf eels are nasty creatures...
I saw one free swimming on the bottom in Sonoma that had to have been around six feet long with the head the size of a small seal   :smt009

Yeah...they are scary for sure....if I ever shoot another one I aint putting my hands ANYWHERE near that head....my thumb hurts like a mouthf*cker and I consider myself very lucky I was able to rip it out of its mouth before it bit down even harder.

Huh....guess my previous wolf eel in 2011 was actually longer, but this one was thicker for sure.

Isn't that the same thumb that got sliced?

When I asked how big the eel was, I meant how much did it weigh?

Good report Jim.  I had a great time talking to your parents again. Hopefully I'll get to visit with them again when I go back out to NOLA in a couple of months.

It was the other thumb.  :smt005

I don't have a scale Howard...but it felt heavy, and the sack of filets I got off it is heavy, and the head that I am gonna BBQ up is super heavy.  :smt004

They really enjoyed seeing you Angel and would be happy to have you over.

Thanks again for your help with the cooking...you really helped save the day after someone forget the oil and fry disc.

Those Wolf Eels have big teeth!
When I was a kid fishing a lot off the Monterey wharf, they told me Wolf Eels have "Hydaulic Jaws" Once they bite they don't let go! Lucky you got your thumbs back  :smt013
