Well Mol, if its any consolation, at least you didn't contribute 20 bucks to the people who want to kick fishermen off the water. :smt023

Great :smt012 .... they waited till the GW shark got hungry and mean enough to start killing other aquarium inhabitants and then they decided to set it free in Monterey Bay two days before the salmon opener. :smt011

AH, but the reason they let it go off of Pt. Pinos is that they claim that there are other young sharks in the area, so big deal.

The scary part of the whole thing to me is that the shark was a year old and over 6 feet long. That means those guys get big fast. Wait for two or three years of big seal and sea lion populations with high success in breeding pups. Around the 3 years should give all the new bumper crop of baby whites time to grow nice and big. Now, imagine a natural disaster or man made one: Tsunami, oil spill, freak weather event. The seals die off and you're left with a big spike in the Great White population. Know what that makes you, a nice snack.

They should have let the shark go in La Jolla.....I kept hearing about the local yakers complaining about the ever-growing seal population stealing their hooked yellow tails  :smt118

So is the aquarium liable if the shark attacks someone?  They've trained it that people = food to some degree...

You can bet the aquarium fed the crap out of that shark, it's pretty easy to grow fish in captivity faster than nature, warmer water, more food, little exercise.  Nothing to do but pork up and fill out.

IMO that shark is not going to survive.  Did you see the pictures of its nose pretty much beat off from living in a tank?  The nose is one of the sharks main sensory organs.  They let it go so that the public wouldn't see it die in the tank.  What a shame.  Just my opinion.

Or.......they let it bang up its nose for so long that it wrecked its sensory perception and attacks people out of confusion...........more so than a normal white.
