Hey everyone,

Fishing with Chuwy4 out of Santa Cruz on Friday, hoping to launch very early and fish as long as possible. Targeting rockfish/lings of course. Weather looks to be pretty good. Company welcome.

last I checked, it looked like it's going to be windy even early in the day?  maybe I don't have the best source though.  where do you check your conditions?

Thanks Jack,

I've been using this site which shows higher winds and lower swell.  It seems like it's been pretty accurate for me?  I dunno though, I'm pretty new at this!  :smt003

I'll take a walk along west cliff tomorrow and see how things are.  if it's pretty calm I might get out there friday.

Then click on the local area ... http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.95647639022989&lon=-121.99836730957031 .  The forecast has gotten worse than yesterday, particularly the swell is lingering another day.  And it's a relatively short period.  I may switch to the weekend, but I'll wait for the afternoon updates before deciding.  Saturday's forecast is what Friday's forecast looked like yesterday morning.  Sunday is more of the same.

Quote
Friday: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming W 9 to 14 kt in the afternoon. Mostly sunny. Mixed swell...W 6 ft at 8 seconds and SSW 2 ft at 13 seconds. Wind waves 1 to 2 ft.

Friday Night: WNW wind 6 to 11 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the evening. Partly cloudy. Mixed swell...W 4 ft and SSW 2 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Saturday: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming W 5 to 9 kt in the afternoon. Sunny. Mixed swell...W 3 ft and W 1 ft becoming SSW. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Saturday Night: WNW wind 5 to 10 kt. Partly cloudy. Mixed swell...W 4 ft and SSW 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Sunday: Variable winds less than 5 kt becoming W 5 to 9 kt in the afternoon. Partly sunny. Mixed swell...WNW 4 ft and W 1 ft becoming SSW. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Sunday Night: WSW wind 5 to 9 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt in the evening. A slight chance of rain. Mixed swell...W 3 ft and W 1 ft. Wind waves around 1 ft.

Where you seeing that Tim?  NOAA local isn't showing that high in the afternoon.  Although with the short period W swell and the SSW swell, it's still not the best forecast. The weekend looks much better.

I just drove by La Selva area..     no where near the whitecaps as yesterday.  What is there is much further outside the bay.
       Tomorrow morning will be epic.

I'll be headding out of Capitola tomorrow morning, and possibly Sat as well.  NOAA sucks at wind prediction IMHO.  This is the site I use, which conviently has swell and tide information as well.  Friday and Sat both look about the same in the morning.  By noon it will be windy everywhere for sure.  http://windalert.com/spot/49611

I can't get out this Fri/weekend, but I would if I could.  I was down inside the upper harbor yesterday morning and saw lots of anchovies flashing in the water, and there I've seen a lot more  pelicans in the last week or so.   There were several boats this morning almost to the Mile Buoy, kind of where you'd expect them to be fishing for flatties.  There was a little wind at 10:30, but not bad.  Go gettum!
