That's no monster gar.  I have caught bigger on a trot line.  They aren't that dangerous or hard to handle, but they do taste good since they eat live fish.  Just nail it to a tree or board and get out your tin snips and cut the skin open then filet as normal.  Nice clean white meat

A bunch of pussies Art,. No difference in sinking your gaff into A fish, or using A harpoon I guess. Just saying. As long as its legal.

Well sure, you can shoot them in the head if you WANT to, I prefer to get them looking at me, flex, and they usually realize that any resistance if futile, and give up the will to live right then and there.. cleaner meat too.

As long as the fish isn't wasted and is within the law, I'd rather see it dispatched quickly than left to rot on a stringer or the bank.

Dead fish is a dead fish, but a large powerful darting fish and two people in close proximity on a slippery, uneven riverbank, plus a handgun = disaster waiting to happen
