I want to be like GB2 when I grow up, catch salmon and have a good time on the water!  Great article, very informative. I already saved these to my Fav folder.

I use a 4” fish flash or kone zone flasher in green/chartreuse

I don't know what these are, and a web search turns up about anything BUT fishing gear.  Do you have a link to someplace selling these?

a ball bearing swivel on the flasher side and a small SS snap swivel on the lure side.

What sizes for these?  I have SS snap swivels in size 5, 120 pound test.  Are those too small?

Nice write up Scott!

Skipro3, deep six is the diver shown on the right. They dive at certain depths without the aid of downriggers. Other options are dipsy diver and this other flat one I forgot the name. Flashers are the ones shown on the left. The ones he's using are the cone ones. They don't create drag compare to using dodgers. Make sure you use those chain swivels to prevent line twist. You can start by looking at cabelas website. Im no expert on the matter, just did a little research a while back. I have yet to catch salmon on these setup.

Thanks!
So, a diver, a flasher, a spoon with a grub.  Add some flash with prism tape and eyes.  I figured with the trolling speed, a dodger wasn't going to work right.

I use a double deep 6 or fish seeker most of the time both in green and modified. I use a 4” fish flash or kone zone flasher in green/chartreuse

If you go to Cabelas.com and search you will find all of the tackle except the konezone flasher where you can purchase at http://www.konezone.com/content-product_info/product_id-1870/konezone_trolling_flasher_4.html

I use Matzuo size 4 ball bearing swivels (SSBBS-4) and Billfisher KROK SSKS100 snap swivels which I buy at Sport Chalet. Each cost about $1-1.25 a piece and are rated to 100-230#. They less expensive than Spro but very high quality and will last for years. They come in a pack of 4-5 so you can tie 4 leaders for $10 and 4 leaders is enough to get you through a day of fishing even on a party boat.

As always Scott, you've got tons of information to share. Thank you so much.
The article on downrigger as being the most comprehensive is an under statement.
Another great writeup.

Just curious Scott!
When you have the downrigger, why use deep sixes and the likes? Ease of trolling?
Thanks.

Diving planes are easier to deploy and if hook a fish using a downrigger you have to bring the lead ball up before you bring the fish in. That is in addition to pulling the drive, rudder and daggerboard. The diving planes sometimes get tangled tacking up wind because you lose forward movement and sometimes go backwards a little when tacking which causes the plane to sink straight down which allows the flasher to wrap around the main line. Something I learned on a windy day at the hole 2 weeks ago with Etienne.

Got it Scott! It is so nice to capitalize on other people's experience. Learned something new again.
Thanks for sharing.
