I know a very sucessful dude that uses them on the swimbaits and does well. He uses a treble on cable though secured to the jig eye on 9" lures.

Personally I go the hardest route and have another rod rigged with a smaller plastic. If I feel the need for schoolies I can chuck that at em.

I also carry 2 rods. One with a 1.5 oz head and 5" big hammer, one with 2-3 oz and a 6.5".

No, not for rockfish.  Maybe for Lingcod though!  I've lost a few big ones on swimbaits and wished I had a stinger hook.  But mostly they do become bothersome for unhooking fish and snagging the bottom.  I was using them for Halibut and WSB, but after this weekend I'm a big beliver in the single hook again, evenf or huge fish.  :smt002

i guess the thing that makes the most sense that i have heard so far is that if the fish is big enough he will inhale the bait hook n all.  i had an experience when i was in San diego fishing off of a jetty where i was tossing 6" swimbait out past the breakers and reeling it in so it would bounce off the bottom and i had a big hit, i set the hook and it was fighting the whole time and when i get to the bottom of the jetti to see what i got, it was a halibut(maybe a sand dab)  but it was flat and looked like a hali but the only reason that it was staying on that long was because it wanted to hold on. it finally let go and off into the foaming water it went. I looked at my swimbait and the teethmarks were right behind the hook... I have had similar issues a few times before and it sucks lol losing a fish that way i mean.

Rough... That'll happen sometimes.  I think the biggest plus for NOT using the stinger is just not losing so much gear... Getting hung up sucks ass...
